I have had a roadblock working on this quilt. I stop and start alot. Last week, I was half way through this section 2, and, I was able to finish it in one evening. It was a great feeling. I am half way through the quilt. I have many of the blocks already done. I just have to sew the pesky vertical sections. I am doing a rainbow colored heart. There are two of us completely done, and, two of us still working on it. And I think the other friend is waiting for me to get closer, to finish ...

We had a fun Saturday with a trip to Danville Indiana for a woolkeepers 'hook in'. The weather was lovely and the skies were blue. The projects on display were amazing and wool was everywhere in beautiful colors. I managed to leave it all behind and spent my money on cushing dye to dye my own wool. I have started dyeing background for my village rug, and, I was afraid, I would not have enough of the dyes I used in the mixture. It is a big rug, and, I will need 6 yards of background.
I had a chance ...
read moreIt was one of those days. I have an issue with my phone. I will be chatting away, and then suddenly, the person on the other end can't hear me. If I go outside, then they can hear me. However, on one call yesterday, even that didn't work. Last week, I was in the car and chatted for an hour, and no issues. So why is being in the house causing the problem?
Is anyone else having this difficulty? I had been to the Bell store in the mall, where the people are really salespeople, and they had ...
read moreOH -- I have to get back to responding to the comments!! Someone is also reading The End of Her. I finished it while walking the dogs, and well -- I don't want to say what happened, but I was a bit surprised. That's all I'm going to say! This is NOT the sort of book they talk about in a book club, but I want to discuss this with someone!
I've started another book -- Looking for Jane by Heather Marshal. Someone recommended it to me. OH my -- what a fantastic premise. Who dreams up this stuff? I ...

Last February, almost a year ago now, my quilty friend Denise suggested we do a Jen Kingwell sew-along, and she chose the "Long Time Gone" pattern. It isn't the style quilt I usually make, but I was onboard.
It has a lot of little tiny pieces. Like 1" x 1.5" strips for the Courthouse Steps blocks .....
We have been making progress on our Jen kingwell boho blocks. Our Friday group is working together on this quilt as a QAL. Sue and Linda have kept up each week with the assignments. The rest of us are in various stages of behind. I just finished week 2 completely. We are on week 5.

We made these separately. Linda is working from her "wild" box and I am doing mine in rainbow stripes. Funny, how each of our blocks looks very much alike. read more
Oh, and by the way, I won the jelly roll race, Saturday, with my border attached to sea swept.
I mentioned earlier that my Friday group is working on Jen Kingwell's Boho Heart quilt together. Our first assignment was to do the 10 inch offset dresden and all the 2 inch 4 patches. They still need to be trimmed.
Sue is mostly reds and purples |
Linda is wilds |
I still needed to applique the center and trim the block.

Our second assignment was the two gardenvale 10 inch blocks and all the 4 inch pinwheels.
I had one lonely aqua 16 patch color block from last month for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy.
then, I worked on 4 psp 20 blocks in this month's color - orange. I am amazed at how many different oranges there are, but, I was also surprised how few oranges of any size, I have left in the scrap bins.
My Friday group has started making Boho heart by Jen Kingwell. I am doing it in rainbow colors. Part of the fun of a group project is seeing how different all of our hearts will be when finished ...
read moreJen Kingwell’s Wanderer’s Wife (formerly Gypsy Wife) quilt has been on my bucket list for quite some time. I purchased the pattern years ago and considered starting several times but never followed through. In March, my friend Jacqi got a group of seven together for a sew-along. The idea was to sew blocks, report in via Zoom every month, then have a completed top by the end of June. It was time to dive in.
This project is a little overwhelming and more than a little confusing to piece. The internet is full “helpful” hints and charts. I ...

Now it's finished, and it will look just right on our bed. I chose the greens ...
I'm just writing this very brief blog post to let you know that won some awards at the Capital Quilters show this weekend.
First up is my "Glitter in Green" quilt - it won Best Hand Pieced quilt. I was thrilled because I do love this quilt. I'll do a proper blog post soon with ALL the details, but suffice to say it's a wonderful pattern by Jen Kingwell.
Next is my "We Built This City" quilt and it won a Merit in the Build It Up challenge, and also the Joanne Johnson Colour Award. This quilt was ...

Today is Jen Kingwell’s turn to share a quilt block pattern. The name of her block is Proposal and it has a great story behind it. To get the pattern and learn more about the block, visit Jen’s blog, HERE.
Using Jen’s inspiration for her block, I decided to use all lights to represent a diamond. My Diamond is not perfect and since there is all different qualities of diamonds I left the imperfections!! Another thing I learned while pulling fabric for this one is I must love white/cremes with tan or grey dots ...
read moreThis weekend I'm going to our guild's retreat. We're quite a big guild, so we usually have 3 retreats a year - 2 at Silverstream in Upper Hutt, and one at Home of Compassion in Island Bay, Wellington. Different groups of members are regulars at each venue. I only go to the Home of Compassion retreat which is usually in the middle of winter.
So many people commented on my circle blocks in last week's post.
Everyone wanted to know how I got them looking so good! Well, I followed Jen Kingwell's video on YouTube. I've put a link to it here so you can watch it too.
Jen uses Karen Kay Buckley's Perfect Circles and Bigger Perfect Circles. I already had these circles in my cupboard because I use them for wool felt applique. They last for ever and ever (as long as you don't distort them with a super hot iron). Most quilt shops stock Perfect Circles ... read more
Today I decided to revisit my Marshal Mystery Quilt. The Marshal quilt was designed by Jen Kingwell and released in Quiltmania magazine throughout 2019.
I made most of the blocks during 2019, but when the final quilt was revealed at Houston in November, I lost motivation to continue. I didn't like the final design, so I've spent some months thinking about how I could use all the blocks I spent hours making.

Welcome to block 2 in the Blockheads 3 series.
( that sounds weird)
This week’s block is designed by Sherri McConnell of A Quilting Life and she is one of the sweetest people I know. I will probably be saying that a lot on my Blockheads posts because I do think these gals are the best!
I am not sure what my layout is going to be so I am making some of the simpler blocks in a variety of sizes. If I don’t use the 4″ blocks they can always be used as quilt labels, pincushions ...

At this stage I think I'm going to come up with a different layout. I can't say that I'm in love with the final layout, and I haven't come this far to join my blocks in a way that I don't love. I very ... read more
