Happy 14th Birthday to Jackson!!! from Val's Quilting Studio

Today he got ice-cream!!!

Our ol' boy continues to be our constant companion.
He still enjoys our daily walks, always taking the lead...though the distance is shorter as his bones hurt, his legs shake, he tires quicker, he WON'T miss it!

Yet, as long as he is with us, he is happy!
For example, trips to the department store...where he even enjoys a nap.

As long as he can come along...he IS HAPPY!
He has doggie dementia which produces separation anxiety...so we just take him along.

He continues to love "his boys".

They know to ...

"May the Force Be With You" from Val's Quilting Studio

Like most four years old's right now, our youngest grand guy just loves Baby Yoda.

For his fourth birthday (last month) he got Baby Yoda Jammies:

He got a "big boy" twin bed so of course, we bought him Baby Yoda sheets:

And....finally...Meme got his birthday quilt DONE!!!
(Yes, a month later!!!)

I love the flannel green & black check backing and "bubbles" pantograph I used:

It's just the right size for that NEW twin size bed too!!!

And here he is opening up his "Happy Mail":

SWEET DREAMS Little One!!!

With Smiles! Val:)

Birthday Quilts Ready to Gift! from Val's Quilting Studio

Not one...

...but two birthday quilts.
These were quick and easy strip quilts that happily filled our grand guys request of  a
birthday quilt in fabric of his favorite football team. I used a soft flannel backing and
made them to be twin and crib size to fit the beds at their dad's house.

Hard to believe these two are going to be four and eight!

These are their traditional quilt labels and I finished the quilts with a fun football pantograph.

More quilty hugs...
...for the two that call me Meme.
With Smiles.

A New Jackson Pullover from Dizzy Quilts

Helen's Closet released their Jackson Tee and Pullover pattern a little while ago and well - I love everything Helen does so I just had to buy it. The pattern is unisex so I thought I could use it for me as well as my hubby who loves a good tee.

I ordered knit fabric from The Fabric Snob for this project. I like the look of stripes for the body and a solid for sleeves so I went with that.

I chose to sew a solid neckband and striped cuffs. The pattern calls for a hem band but I ...

My Word for 2021: Committment! from Val's Quilting Studio

Today I completed my 100 day challenge!!!
I wrapped up the last One Hundred days of 2020 with a commitment to self.
To complete 100 days of something changes you.
For me, I gained a new confidence in myself.
I learned to prioritize my own commitment to self...with no excuses.
I remember when I first started I read: You have to have a Day One to have a Day One Hundred! Then pretty soon, I was on day ten, twenty...soon not wanting to miss a day, not wanting to break my '"trend". This in itself increased my sense ...

A New Baby Quilt! from Val's Quilting Studio

Nothing like the anticipation of a new baby to get one's sewing mojo back!
Pattern used: Summer Song by Villa Rosa Designs.
Quilt measures 44"x55".

I love watching a fat quarter bundle turn into a wonderful quilt.
For this one I used a Purples Bella Solid pack.
I've never made a commissioned quilt. But this was for a work friend who wanted something special for her new little niece. She requested solid purples with grays.
I don't think I've ever made a quilt from solids...and this one has quickly become a favorite!

I used ...

Pandemic Power Sewing... from Val's Quilting Studio

This afternoon I dumped a basketful of 2 1/2" strips I've had for way too long and started some...

...power chain piecing.

I'm sewing three strips together, then cutting them into 5 1/4" squares.

There's really no rhyme or reason behind what I'm doing except that I plan on sewing them
into a scrappy Crazy Rails quilt pattern. I don't even know what size this quilt will make. LOL!
But I love my scrappy Thirties Repro fabrics...so know I'll love the quilt as well.
And....having an emptied basket of scraps ...

The Hummmmm of Quilting.... from Val's Quilting Studio

Today is a wonderfully overcast summer day.

Rejuvenated and A Finish! from Val's Quilting Studio

Sometimes a change of scenery is rejuvenating for the soul. I can't believe we've been in this Coronavirus "shutdown" for four months now. Of which have found me transforming from an efficient, organized, productive human being to a total blob who can't remember when she last showered! Accept for my daily exercise routine, I've had motivation to accomplish nothing more. Finally, weekend before last, hubby and I took a long weekend and escaped to the mountains. We were isolated in the middle of the mountains and though we didn't do much, as the town we ...

Taking Time to Smell the Flowers from Val's Quilting Studio

Our daily walks help get us out during his time of "social isolation".
They help me process all the changes that seem to happen daily
and ensure we get in our daily "steps" too.
Witnessing the coming of Spring seems to give me a little bit of hope too.
Be intentional to get your daily dose of sunshine and fresh air...it helps!

My "Accidental" Green Thumb. from Val's Quilting Studio

I've always had a few houseplants...but my spider plants have gotten out of control!
And I honestly can't seem to resist the temptation to propagate them continuously.

HOW to PROPAGATE SPIDER PLANTS

To Propagate, just trim the babies off once they've started to spout little nubs
like shown in the picture below.

I like put my babies into old shot glasses to root in a sunny window. But you can also put them directly into a small pot of soil. I just like to watch the roots grow until they fill up the glass.
Once the ...

The End... from Val's Quilting Studio

The hum of my sewing machines seem to almost echo in our empty house as the final quilt gets quilted....
...and another got binding sewn on.

I thought Jackson looked a little sad until I realized while I was ironing that he in fact just couldn't find a comfy place to rest! Poor guy! I felt so bad. With no dog bed of his own nor couch to rest upon...he finally found a cozy spot in the quilt I was binding. Smart puppy.

As many of you know, hubby and I have been downsizing this year and as ...

I'm Back! New Look! New Purpose! from Val's Quilting Studio

My goal for 2019 was to be authentic as my husband and I found ourselves at a crossroad that would find us making an intentional, major shift in our lives both emotionally and physically. It was time to accept what was truly no longer a healthy option for us and recreate a new life for ourselves.
Welcome 2019!

Life's journey is full of hills and valleys.
But we can't give up when life get's hard.  I'm rebooting my blog after almost a year long sabbatical with a new face-life and mission. It is my hope to provide weekly ...
