Choices from Quilt Paint Create

I’ve made baby steps forward pairing the shirt fabrics with patterns.

Although I chose a pattern for the blue fabric, I’m undecided. Looking at the view in the top left, the off the shoulder style concerns me. I’m not one to walk around with my bra straps showing. I would have to wear a cardigan or jacket and keep it on.

For the red fabric I chose an old favorite. It’s between one of the middle views, although I wouldn’t do the color blocking.

I’m also considering a long term stitch project, most likely ...

Fifteen First from Quilt Paint Create

About a month ago, I watched a short video by Marie Forleo where a woman asked how she could find time to write a book on top of a demanding career. Her efforts to work on it at night did not produce results. She didn’t have the creative energy at the end of the day.

Sound familiar?

Marie told her to start working on her book first thing in the morning, before her career took over her day.

This is not a new idea. I have dismissed it in the past for various reasons, but decided to give it ...

How To Accumulate Ideas from Quilt Paint Create

I’ve been looking through old quilting magazines to give myself a break from screen time. In the Sept/Oct 2017 issue of Quiltmaker, I saw this Bonnie Hunter pattern.

Interesting, but I wouldn’t want a bed quilt of pumpkins. Maybe a table runner? No, one row is too narrow, two rows didn’t appeal.

Maybe a wall hanging or topper, three rows of five pumpkins. Much more interesting. The pumpkins can be sewn from scraps, always a plus.

I’m not a fan of the grey background. Blue would be nice. Black on white prints might be better ...

A Little Every Day from Quilt Paint Create

I finished stitching a project this week that was designated my do-a-little-every-day project. The concept is simple. Every day I did something to move that project forward.

This is not a new idea, or my idea, but something I’ve heard a lot about lately. Pat Sloan talks about it all the time on her daily videos and uses it to finish UFOs. Karen Brown of Just Get It Done Quilts also talks about this method. Karen uses it to focus on her more complicated projects, using a timer to work on those 30 minutes at a time.

I’m ...

Sewing Mistakes (cont.) from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Yesterday I posted this article about sewing mistakes that even seasoned sewists common make. The idea is to help you avoid some of those mistakes. Caring for your machine and tools and choosing the right needle all seem like a given, right? I am ashamed to admit it, but I've been guilty of all of them.

You get on a roll and just keep going. You know there's dust clogging up the gears, but in just a minute... Or I think I hear a funny sound, I'll finish this then take a look... Or, my favorite, there ...

Sunday Stash August 2, 2020 from Quilt Paint Create

No fabric in or out. I forgot all about counting the fabric my friend gave me last week.

I’m working on the idea that came to visit. We had quite a long chat that ended with this.

Hosting Inspiration from Quilt Paint Create

I hung this on my design wall
dyed and painted scraps
and a couple weeks later an idea came wandering in. It took another day for it to introduce itself.
Once we started talking, I knew I’d met something cool and interesting. It gave me something to think about.
I will start cutting fabrics today because this idea is a restless one. If I don’t offer something interesting in return, I expect it will wander off and find someone else who will.

NYC, Designing & “Good” Ideas from Where Art & Life Meet

The other day my husband and I had a socially distanced, mask-wearing get-together with friends. Okay, so we didn’t keep our masks on once we were seated the acceptable, government authorized 6 feet apart from one another, but we behaved responsibly. Why am I feeling that I need to add something like – “no really,… Continue reading NYC, Designing & “Good” Ideas

Gratitude from Quilt Paint Create

It’s been one of those weeks when things happen, not to me, but around me.
On one particularly challenging day, I realized a lot of people struggle this time of year. Not theoretical people, but real people. People I know personally. People I see often. Although seeing the same people at the store, post office, or other public places gives the illusion of familiarity, I don’t really know them at all.
Everyone has challenges in their lives. Unfortunately, many people feel like they need to face their challenges alone.
I may not be able to change another person ...

Looking Back, Looking Forward from Quilt Paint Create

It’s that time of year when you see a lot of 2019 recaps and 2020 plans. I’ve been thinking about 2020 for a few weeks now, keeping in mind where I am and where I want to be.
This wasn’t one of my more productive sewing years. A leg injury late in 2018 kept me out of the sewing room and focused on healing the first part of the year. I couldn’t move around well and stayed off my feet with the leg elevated after work each day. Eventually it healed and life went on.
One ...
