Room for All! from Lisa H Calle's Blog

I have been saying this for years. There is enough room in this industry for all of us. Whether you are a longarm quilter, a teacher, a quilt competitor, or a ruler creator, you are worried about your competition. I have been through all these things and learned there is room for us all! When I started quilting for customers, I was worried whenever someone got a new longarm. I thought… there goes my business. Same thing with rulers, teaching, and even competition quilting.

I realize that my competitive spirit, shall we say, sometimes ...

Getting old sucks from Lisa H Calle's Blog

So today, I turned 55 and spent the day at Paoli Hospital getting x-rays of my hands, feet, and knees. Fun time! I have had pain in those areas for the past year. I got blood work done last year, and my ANAs were high, which I guess is a sign of inflammation in the body. I got more bloodwork done over a week ago and am still awaiting the results. The X-rays don’t show anything abnormal. The results say normal mineralization, whatever that is.

Shout out To QG Creative Design Society Members (Formerly TRIBE) from Lisa H Calle's Blog

There isn’t much I love better than teaching, other than a well-struck iron shot into an elevated green. The Creative Design Society is my ongoing membership, and it focuses on all things machine quilting. Someone asked me what is the thing I love about it the most. That is an easy question to answer. It is all of the members. While the primary focus is on quilting, we have supported members through some trying times. I, for one, leaned on all of the members when my mother passed away. The support was incredible. Other members have had falls, cancer ...

Eaglemania from Lisa H Calle's Blog

No, I’m not talking about the football team. Last night was what I consider my first night out since not drinking (I’m not counting going out to dinner). My brother, sister-in-law, and sister went to an interesting Cuban restaurant. I had thought that the food would be spicy, but two of the dishes were quite bland. Mine was delicious; it was kind of like a shrimp scampi.

We then saw an Eagles cover band, which was so much fun. I haven’t been to a concert in a while, and definitely my first with no alcohol. It was ...

Stitching Stuff: Week 35 of 2023 from Life In Pieces

I've already stared thinking about my quilting plans for next year. It seems a bit early, but the end of the year will be here before we know it. I'm really hoping to get in at least 4 finishes before the end of the year.  If my sewing stats continue like this I might just make that.

 • 15 minute days/week = 7/7 days
 • 15 minute days/Sept = 9/9 days
 • 15 minute days/2023 = 215/252
 • Success rate = 85.32%

I've managed to get in 7 days for the last three weeks.  That may be challenging ...

This Just In: New Workshops for 2022! from Where Art & Life Meet

A little humor first thing in the morning is like a little gift of joy.  So I was thrilled when my friend sent me this video.  Too funny and exactly the sort of thing my mother used to send to me.  She would have loved this.  This one's for you Mom.  Please know this is silly and meant to be funny.  If you don't find it so, move right along. In other news, my new workshop line up for 2022 is up ...

The Day to Day Trajectory of a Tourist on Safari from Where Art & Life Meet

First day seeing an animal (any animal): Me: What is that?  It looks like a boar.  Runs to find someone who can accurately identify said boar.  Told it’s a warthog.   Second time seeing boar-like creature: Me: Oh look! It’s a warthog. Confidently lists several features of the warthog; it’s preferred vegetation, which animals prey upon it, etc. First day […]

Medical Emergency Remedies from Where Art & Life Meet

This past week has been filled with medical emergencies of one kind or another. Not mine, but those I love. So far everyone is either stabilized or we hope they will be soon, for which I am grateful. So what better way to respond to the fear that comes with people we love going through […]

The Gradient Scale of a “Mess” from Where Art & Life Meet

Someone commented on my Youtube channel about messiness, saying that she was happy my work area isn’t pristine as that would be intimidating. And it made me think about the various stages of messiness. The gradient scale of messiness, because this is important.   1. Kind of “messy”, but it’s not a problem and anyway to […]

Life, Balance and Road Maps from Where Art & Life Meet

It all comes down to what you’re willing to say out loud. Which, one could argue, if you’re asking yourself this question it’s probably best left unsaid. You know? However, never one to stay quiet, I did just post a video regarding The Ice Cream Situation. You can view it below. So there’s that. Do […]

More Sh*t My Mother Sends Me ❤️ from Where Art & Life Meet

My mother sent me this photo of a herd of elk near where she lives in Colorado. We used to see herds like this often, but increasingly less as time went on, so it was wonderful to see this. I actually laughed out loud while watching this one… And then there’s this for all you… Continue reading More Sh*t My Mother Sends Me ❤️

Sh*t My Mother Sends Me & So Much More! from Where Art & Life Meet

I haven’t shared anything from my mother in awhile, so I thought today was as good a day as any for a little humor. Courtesy of my mother, who received this from my brother, I think. Sometimes it’s hard to figure out the source… but regardless, the importance of punctuation. And now that many of… Continue reading Sh*t My Mother Sends Me & So Much More!

Exercise in the Time of Covid from Where Art & Life Meet

Before COVID hit I would begin the day by going to the gym, riding a stationary bike for 30 – 45 minutes, perhaps taking a 45 minute high intensity workout class before heading home. So when the gym closed I figured I’d landed on a “free space” meaning I’d start my exercise routine again once… Continue reading Exercise in the Time of Covid

Laughter and Humor During Troubling Times from Where Art & Life Meet

Most of us, here in the United States, are hoping the next day and a half will go by quietly and without violence. In addition, since most of us are not yet vaccinated, and the variant has hit the US, with death tolls from COVID at an all time high, I thought the perfect remedy… Continue reading Laughter and Humor During Troubling Times

Pandemic Humor from Where Art & Life Meet

When times are tough it’s helpful to find the humor in any and all situations. Of course it helps that I’m married to a man whose DNA revealed he descends from Vikings and his grandmother hailed from County Clare. I’m a German/Swiss/Mayflower descendant. I’ve decided the Swiss part cancels out at least some of the… Continue reading Pandemic Humor

And Now For Some Humor… from Where Art & Life Meet

With much of the country and world resorting to increasingly strident measures due to the pandemic’s unrelenting destruction, here are a few memes and other silliness to make you smile. Years ago my husband, who is constantly hoping to catch sight of a UFO, and believes he will some day, came across acronyms that introduced… Continue reading And Now For Some Humor…

Chaos, Humor & a Do-Over from Where Art & Life Meet

A little humor to start off the day. It must be said that my mother did not send me any of these, however she might have, had she seen them. Here you go, Mom. I love you. I’m feeling a bit like Pooh Bear. To any of you offended by the f-word, these are unprecedented… Continue reading Chaos, Humor & a Do-Over
