Baby Quilt... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

Ponderosa Charm Squares

Back in March I pulled out these charm squares

and stitched together a Moda Love Star Quilt

top for our neighbor who is expecting her

first baby...

It's time to get it under the needle...

I am stitching on my HQ Sweet Sixteen

Sit-Down Long Arm today...

Our neighbor and her horses

are all expecting babies very soon...

A horsey quilt for a horsey girl !

I have made several of these Moda Love Quilts

and they are so much fun and a great way

to utilize precut squares of all sizes...

Horse Quilt...Done ! from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

" Unbridled "

72 x 56 inches

The horse quilt is the same as the

pillows on the couches.

It's good to have it done and enjoy it

in the living room.

We had 5 newborn calves this morning...

They are all strong and healthy.

This is Althea Red

She is one of our oh so beautiful heifers.

She isn't showing any signs of calving just yet.

We check on the cattle several times a day to

see if any of the mamas are in labor yet.

Sometimes they need our help having their babies.

Horse Quilt... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

Remember this horse panel quilt top?

It has been sitting around long enough...

time to get it....under the needle !

It is a fair sized quilt, so I will quilt it

on my Big Girl Machine...

Handi Quilter Sweet Sixteen

This is a Sit-Down Long Arm

and I love it for larger projects...

I used the Handi Quilter Wave Ruler

to quilt the center of the panel...

I used the Hand Quilter Ditch Ruler

for all of the straight line quilting...

To mark the spine of the feather,

I used my very favorite marking tool...

Ultimate Marking Pencil

Horse Quilt Top... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

I took this off the design wall...

It is time to put this quilt top together...

I piled the quilt blocks and

flying geese units on a design board

so they can travel easily to the machine...

It took a bit of measuring and fudging

to get the quilt blocks to fit nicely

along the sides of the horse panel...

The flying geese units

were a bit of a chore to get them to fit

the quilt and keep all the points pointy...

I had to do lots of fudging on the seam allowances

to get the flying geese borders ...

Horse Quilt....Borders from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

I have always been fond of Flying Geese...

Such a simple quilt block that creates

such a big impact in our designs...

Flying Geese units add lots of movement

to this horse quilt panel...

they get along well with the

rest of the quilt blocks...

I am still in the design phase,

nothing is stitched in place just yet...

The color story is working...

I am stitching holiday gifts right now.

I will stitch them and

look at this on the design wall.

It will let me know what else it needs.

As for these two little cowgirls...

Horse Quilt Panel... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

All this year I have been working my way

through a stack of fabric panels...

This horse panel is on the design wall...

I bordered it with a rusty brown fabric...

This is the color story I pulled from the

fabric cupboard...

I created a test block to see how

the fabrics work together...

I made a few more...

I put a few blocks up on the design wall....

I will play around with placement

and see what works...

More To Come !

Horse Panel.....Top DONE ! from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

I have auditioned final border fabrics

for this horse panel quilt...

I decided to go with a different brown fabric,

other than the brown I used for the background

in the quilt blocks...

Yesterday I cut and pieced this brown batik

around the the horse panel...

There are small light green and yellow dots

in this batik fabric and they go nicely

with the greens in the quilt blocks...

I am happy with the design of this quilt,

it has a strong visual impact.

Now I need to paw through the fabric

cupboard and find a backing fabric.

Glad I ...

High Horses.....Quilt Top DONE from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

I started this Horse Panel Quilt top

in September...

I was so happy to finish it and get it off

the design wall that I forgot to get a photo,

so here it is on the ironing board...

It took a few weeks to cut and piece

all of those Bear Paw blocks in the borders...

I put the final mustard yellow border on it

and I am calling it done!

Actually, I am calling it

High Horse

Need to find a backing for it.

Horses in the Stable from Art In Search

No, not horses like Alicia , but fabric horses on a quilt. The Horses Quilt was delivered to its girl Wednesday and her mom reported she was cuddled in it although we have a heat advisory. The quilt was the pattern, Crown and Anchor, by Doug Leko and the fabric line was by Ann Lauer, Horsin' Around. I blogged about the start here. It was not an easy or simple quilt to make. It was fun to quilt. I used Glide thread for the top and Superior Omni for the bobbin. I had major tension issues the last part of the ...

Shipshewana from Mama Spark's World

Chris and I spent the day in Shipshewana yesterday.  I just love going there.  It's only a 3 hour drive to get there so we can go and spend the day and drive home all in the same day.  It was good just to get out of the house and go somewhere.  First stop, of course, was Jojo's pretzels.  I LOVE their pretzels.  I debated whether I should eat one being on keto, but decides WTH and just ate one.

Thread Shed.....Wild and Wooly from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

There's a lot going on in the

Thread Shed

I have a lot of irons in the fire
and so glad I have this little building
to hold all of my stitching enthusiasm !

On the left side of the room is where
the Sweet Sixteen Long Arm is located:

Last week I decided to
organize my long arm rulers...

This stand alone shelf is perfect for the job:

I can sort the rulers by how I use them
in the three shelf units...

The rulers stack nicely in each bin...

The top shelf holds the long, straight rulers and ...

English Paper Piecing and Plowing... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

On Mondays I spend the day with the

Harlan Valley Quilters

@ the Quilt Palace

I brought along the Horse Panel
and put it up on the design wall...

This is my little corner of the sewing room...

I also brought along the border/frame
for the Horse Panel...

The hexagon papers need to stay in the
outer edge of the borders.....for now.

The borders are pinned up around the panel.
I need to do some measuring and tweeking
before I can begin the applique' work...

It is good to see it up on the wall.

Then I had to ...
