a long wall hanging and

layering the applique' sets

from the 4 way layout.

bit smaller.

Maybe I CAN Be a Quilter from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

This past summer, we—along with eleven other designers—participated in a Mystery Stitch-Along. Our block was the Harvest Basket, which you can read about by clicking here. Kara and I (Teri) each stitched the block, as one was destined to be stitched into the Woolen Oak Mystery Quilt, and we wanted to keep one. I decided to create a small wall hanging with the one I made.

I love designing them,

looking at them, &

making them!

Sometimes getting them just

where I want them can be

a bit tricky so here are a few

tips for better alignment.

Remember nature isn't perfect

and we don't have to be either!

Here is my traced

leaf with my lines going

way beyond where my

template would have been.

I do this so that I can

measure 1/4" past the

point for my seam allowance.

To place leaves, put a pin

straight through at the seam

allowance point and into the

vine where you want

them to ...

October OMG Finish from Quilt Paint Create

I finished Birds last night.

The quilt is an adaption of the pattern Blue Sky Birds from the book Tile Quilt Revival by Carol Gilham Jones. All the applique is by hand.

I started this quilt back in 2017. I didn’t get very far before I had to set it aside to pull fabrics together for a class. The class was a weekend trip, and I never did get back to Birds. We Built This City from Wendy's Quilts and More

What a thrill it was to see my quilt hanging in our guild's exhibition last weekend. It really glowed in the dark exhibition space. And the rosette on it matched the colours in my quilt perfectly!

Sunday Stash September 27, 2020 from Quilt Paint Create

No fabric in or out this week.

I finished the Birds top.

Everything is hand appliqued. I decided not to add a lot of embroidery as the top is busy enough as is. I will add eyes to the birds and feet to the bird standing on the branch, but no more than that.

All the greens came out of my scrap basket. This is the third quilt I’ve made from my green scraps, and the basket is still full. Is it even possible to use up a scrap container?

I’m beginning to think not.

Sunday Stash September 20, 2020 from Quilt Paint Create

No fabric in or out this week.

I finished most the applique on Birds. There are a few more leaves to add once the borders are on.

After seeing how much time it takes to pre-wash fabrics, I remember why I never did it. I washed the border fabrics today, and the reds gave off a lot of color. Some I had to wash twice. I’m glad I washed them, but I need to remember to factor that time into my sewing plans.

Fabric In: 17.75

Fabric Out: 15.25 yards

quilt in my collection.

The quilting is a cross hatch done

in 1/4" grid which gives it a

fabulous look and feel!

have evolved over time.

September 2020 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

Fall is in the air here. The nights are cooler and the days shorter. The changing season shifts my attention away from outside activities, to home and holidays. The cooler it gets, the more I want to sew and stitch.

I finished the tee shirt and framing project in August.

This month deserves EVERY

We started the month by going

to Virginia to help my mom

with some things around

the house and to spend

Mother's Day with her.

We did tons of yard work

and I got covered in ticks-YUCK!!!!

Once home, one of the bites

wasn't reacting right so I was

tested / treated for Lyme disease.

My test came back negative but

to this day (2 months later) that

one bite isn't right.

Be careful out there!

Unfortunately, this would

be the last trip ...

Perfect Circles from Wendy's Quilts and More

So many people commented on my circle blocks in last week's post.

Everyone wanted to know how I got them looking so good! Well, I followed Jen Kingwell's video on YouTube. I've put a link to it here so you can watch it too.

Jen uses Karen Kay Buckley's Perfect Circles and Bigger Perfect Circles. I already had these circles in my cupboard because I use them for wool felt applique. They last for ever and ever (as long as you don't distort them with a super hot iron). Most quilt shops stock Perfect Circles ...

Hand applique curves from Luna Lovequilts

It sounds my trip to Austin for attending Quiltcon was ages ago and, if I think about it, it is less than two months ... Have you also lost track of time lately ?! We are now nearing the end of five weeks of isolation and almost got into rut ... The second week had been hard for me though since I felt a bit down. Maybe in reaction to the overflow of energy I felt the first few days ... ;-)
