Sunday Chat from From My Carolina Home

On a cloudy morning this past week, I was having a cup of coffee when I heard some commotion outside. At first, I couldn’t identify where the noise was coming from, but when I opened the front drapery, there were eight turkeys up next to the house having a bit of a squabble.

They were clucking and squeaking, rushing at each other, flapping wings and puffing up. They separated apart, then the largest two began to compete with each other for the dominant position in the flock with a display of tail feather fans and puffed up chests, dragging ...

Sunday Chat – Wildlife from From My Carolina Home

It has been a hectic week, with frantic sewing to try to catch up on the projects I wanted for the Fiber Fair. The event was yesterday, and I’ll tell you more about that in the coming week. For now, I am taking a moment on a Sunday for relaxation, and marveling at our beautiful world with its fall color and wildlife. The tulip poplar tree in the front was showing brilliant color for a day or two, then the leaves began coming down in earnest.

It was gorgeous for about a week, then it was past peak. Same ...

Sunday Chat – Retreat, Garden, Stamping from From My Carolina Home

Our guild recently held a retreat for 11 members at Febuary Hill in Jonesborough, Tennessee, run by the owner of Tennessee Quilts. We booked several days to sew, and chat, and eat, and shop. Some of us met for lunch before the retreat began, and we drove up at the same time. Arriving in the afternoon, I set up my sewing space.

Before I went there, I had to do something fun for the group. I got out some white paper bags and my stamping stuff. I used the roller to put a swirly design on the bags on the ...

Sunday Chat – Gladiolas, Wildlife, Cooking, and Quilting from From My Carolina Home

Last week, I showed you some of my hostas, and mentioned that I needed to check on the gladiolas out back. Well, they are blooming their best. They have multiplied over the past couple of years, and now are a beautiful patch of apricot flowers, amongst the weeds and poison ivy on the mountainside behind the fence.

Aren’t they gorgeous? My Sweet Babboo put on all his protective gear and tramped behind the fence to cut some blooms for me to have in the house.

Purple and orange go together well, so I cut some of the abundant hosta ...

Summer in the Mountains from From My Carolina Home

Summer has arrived, and with it comes activity with our car clubs. This past week, the British car club held a drive up to the Blue Ridge Parkway with lunch at the Pisgah Inn. Stopping at an overlook on the way home, we couldn’t resist getting a photo of our MINI with the mountains in the distance.

The day started at a local grocery store parking lot where we gathered for the drive. It was good to catch up with friends not seen in a while.

Up to the Blue Ridge Parkway, we motored along. There are 8 tunnels ...

Sunday Chat – Luft Wasser and Garden from From My Carolina Home

Saturday was the perfect day for a car show. It is spring, and there are a lot of shows, drives and socials on all the club calendars. This is the first big event of the year for us, held in Brevard, NC yesterday. It is called Luft Wasser, which is German for Air Water, and refers to the two different methods of cooling engines. We had 200 Porsches register for the event, and over 180 showed up. It was a mile of Porsches!

They were parked on both sides of Broad Street, plus another row down the middle of the ...

Hello Gracie from Romany Quilting

Our granddaughter Megan and her boyfriend Michael have recently purchased their first home.  Not only that, they also now have a new corgi puppy, Gracie.  So today we got to see the new house and the new arrival.  I had been busy making a couple of gifts to welcome Gracie into the family.  So what did I make?  A fleece blanket with her name on, and an embroidered pet bag to keep her brush or maybe her toys in.  Plus two plaited pull ropes and some tennis balls, or should that be dog balls, perhaps?  Megan wasn't sure if ...
