I had so much fun sewing up this quilt, called Square Up, for the Fat Quarter Shop! This brand-new pattern is simple, beginner-friendly, and incredibly satisfying to put together. Despite its ease, it has a bold, modern aesthetic that immediately reminded me of a mosaic wall—structured yet full of character.

Day 5 of Stripes Week called for incorporating negative space as a design element.

I pulled this 10" square from a different layer cake by Gingiber.

Then I pulled some cutoff strips from my scrap basket.

After I cut and sewed my first improv, this little kitty came to supervise and help.

Free block pattern: Snazzy Snowflake from Carried Away Quilting

This past week we experienced unseasonably warm weather. November high temps in the 70s are rare in Minnesota. The snow we received in October disappeared quickly, and we were able to get outside to finish our autumn yard chores and enjoy the sunshine. But mother nature can’t fool me.
