WONKED OUT GHASTLIES from Kwilty Pleasures

Several years ago I was in a Ghastlies Wonky Star Swap
with a few Friends on Instagram.
All of us used white low volume backgrounds,
And added our own Ghastlies prints and stash for then stars.

These are my blocks!

They sat for years as I was unsure what I wanted to do with them.
I never rush into anything!

Someone gave me this pattern and a lightbulb went off!
I could do something similar, but different.

I made sure all the blocks were the same size and proceeded from there
And I found the greenish fabric in my stash ...

TWO KATHYS AND A BUNCH OF PUMPKINS from Kwilty Pleasures

In October (2023) Kathy Guenther and I visited a couple local parks
to snap some fabulous "quilts in the wild" pics.

Here we are at Franklin Park Conservatory, Columbus, OH

Kathy's quilt is the light gray pumpkins!
Mine is the ORANGE Ghastlies churn dash quilt!

Do you ever take your "quilts in the wild".
It makes for great conversations with complete strangers
who can't believe "you made that?'

GHASTLIES JEAN JACKET from Kwilty Pleasures

Halloween is anytime you think of The Ghastlies.
Take this jacket, for instance.
A couple years ago I was inspired by Wild BoHo over on IG.
She has many beautiful hand embroidered and beaded pieces.
Especially GHASTLIES!

But it was kinda boring…a word I don’t use with GHASTLIES
Sew I kicked it up a notch!
I used a lightweight fusible and
kept layering Ghastliness til they screamed
ENOUGH!

This was the very boring front)

Then the updated, layered look.

Take a closer look at the Ghastlies on the back of the jacket.
I love the umbrella!

And the ...

Ghastlies Table Runner - another Ghastlie finish from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

My second Ghastlie finish to share has also been a long waiting UFO. I created these blocks for the Wicked Blog Hop in October 2012.

Since I'm trying to focus on getting projects actually finished, this one wasn't hard to get to the completed top stage and then it was added to the pile to get quilted.  I turned the blocks into a table runner for my long dining room table but it could just as easily become a skinny wall hanging if I so choose at some point.

The Ghastlie Gals Wall Hanging - a Ghastlie finish from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

Today being All Hallow's Eve, it's the perfect time to share a recent finish.Way back....say 10 years ago this month, I hosted a couple of Halloween themed round robin type events though this particular one was back and forth between me and one other quilter, hence I called it a See Saw Swap.

My swap partner, Edy, didn't have a blog then and unfortunately I've lost contact with her in the years since but I'm still thankful to her for the fabulous additions she made to my quilt.

I started out with one ...

GHASTLIES IN THE GARDEN from Kwilty Pleasures

I love a good pumpkin quilt.
HOCUS POCUS by The Pattern Basket
ended up in my sewing room.

Well Pumpkins are still around in November!
Sew take a peek!

I pulled fabrics and began to read the pattern.
I was quite disappointed to learn the instructions had
you cut and make one block at at time.

I don't always follow rules...I don't like rules.
Sew I cut the block pieces,
but did not sew them.
Sew many tiny pieces....I am not happy!
I put it away for awhile.

I had an idea, since I first saw ...

FOLDING IT UP! from Kwilty Pleasures

I was a guest demonstrator at the
St. Boniface Quilters Show
on July 10, 2021

"Folding Quilts on the Diagonal"

I didn't invent this method, don't know who did...but
If you want to eliminate those deep batting folds.
THIS is the METHOD!
Just google it....lots of videos out there!

My other tip was to store your quilts on the vertical
or side by side vs one on top the other.
This eliminates the extra weight piled into a stack
and possibly gives you more space on a shelve to stack
and or display your quilts.

Here ...

A BIG AND GHASTLIE HALLOWEEN from Kwilty Pleasures

Today is Halloween!
There's a Nightmare on Widows Peak!
A GHASTLIE creation that nearly drove me INSANE!

I am not an inexperienced quilter!
I can follow directions!
I even joined an Instagram Group SAL
to get this DAMN quilt finished.

The Make Modern Building Blocks by Moda

was NOT a fun journey.

I kept giving up on making blocks and putting it

back on the shelf because...
The directions SUCKED!
Pieces didn't fit together correctly!
Strips had to be added to make sections FIT!

I spent the good part of 5 years hating this quilt!
Then one day ...
