Safelight – Celebrate Your Freedom from From My Carolina Home

This week I wanted to use the rest of the surplus of money collected for the Spa Bag project to do something fun for the Safelight Domestic Violence Shelter. I set aside what will be needed for the October delivery of the last spa bags, and found I had just enough to do a special project for this week. In the past I have found some fun water bottles with great messages, but that was not the case this year. I really couldn’t find anything I considered appropriate. The last thing I want to do is give an abuse ...

CANCEL CULTURE Playing Cards? from Nina Paley

GENDER WARS Playing Cards were a hit of 2023, and I intended to make a 2024 edition. But recent schisms in the gender world have put me off, so I’m pivoting. I got into the gender mess because of my interest in Free Speech, and would rather focus on this subject. Therefore, I request your nominations for CANCEL CULTURE Playing Cards:

Free! from From the Strawberry Patch...

If you've ever had your dominant hand in a cast for four weeks you know the feeling of absolute FREEDOM that is experienced when it's removed. Yesterday I was freed from the fiberglass "prison" that has surrounded my hand, wrist and arm; hallelujah! When they rolled the cast removing machine (saw/vacuum combo), just like the one pictured here, into the room I wanted to stand up and cheer. After

Revolution 2020 from Humble Quilts

I thought the free motion waves would look a little like the flag fluttering.
I’m really happy With it and the feelings behind it.

I admit, I struggled with the label to try and put what was going on but I think when history looks back we will know what was going on in 2020. I thought these quotes were appropriate. If you have a hard time reading them I typed them up and you can see them below.

Our church and another local church is hoping to get a dialogue going about race relations in our town. We ...

Revolution from Humble Quilts

I felt a need to make a little quilt to document what's going on in America right now.

This is something I've had in my head  for a few weeks now. I finally got some time in my sewing room! Whoop! Whoop!
My test block- F
I posted this on my Facebook group and it wasn't really recognizable as the letter F.
I used Cheri Payne's letter pattern and paper pieced them. They finish at 3 1/2".

I got the letters made but had to mull around how I was going to set them.
Other ...

It's A FAD from From the Strawberry Patch...

It's a Flag A Day (not a passing fad) for me, this has been a habit that I began last week and it's fun to watch the flags slowly stacking up on the design wall. At a time when it seems like our personal freedoms are being revoked it helps to remember that we are Americans and this won't last for us forever. Our country is blessed to be founded on freedoms and we need to remember that now more

So let's chat from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

about the Sherry Lynn Wood workshop that I attended over the weekend. I had great fun seeing so many of my quilty friends. Marty of Marty's Fiber Musings was there. As were Lori, Marquita, Glen (of Quilts and Dogs blog), Joyce, Stephanie, and Yvonne from BRMQG. They were there for the long haul--Friday through Sunday and staying overnight, which means they had dinner together at local restaurants.

Of course, I had the pleasure of meeting other quilters, mostly from Quilters Guild Acadienne, which is a guild in Lafayette. QGA and BRMQG have fearless leaders willing to combine efforts and ...

Sunday Quilt Inspiration: Sherri Lynn Wood workshop from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

I attended a two-day workshop with author Sherri Lynn Wood thanks to the Baton Rouge Modern Quilt Guild and Quilt Guild Acadienne. Held at A&A Sewing Center, this workshop could not have been more. Class fees paid for everything, and I mean everything. That included more delicious food than we could eat. (South Louisiana, y'all. We know how to eat!)

leaders, Torch (left) and Lori (right)
Thanks, ladies, for a wonderful weekend!
And now to inspire you, just a few pictures of some of the pieces we worked on. No one ...
