What Are Quilters Blogging About Today?

This quilt is one I have been trying to finish since March. I am counting it toward March’s nine-patch challenge since the alternate blocks have nine pieces. Haha!

After 30-plus years of quilting, I have accumulated too much fabric! I sew nearly every day, but it still takes a long time empty a shelf or bin. When we had our water heater replaced last month, I rearranged some bins and realized I have many yards of flannel. It is bulky and takes up a lot of space and I don’t like working with flannel. To motivate myself and to encourage you to use up some fabric, here is the first stashbuster challenge.

When I made my list of quilts I hoped to finish this year, this quilt wasn't even on it. I guess I just forgot to add it so I'll just call it a bonus quilt.

Finished the baby rag quilt I started here. It was a quick sew, but the clipping took a while. I’d clip, rest, clip some more, do something else, then clip, clip, clip! The quilt has been washed and dried twice to get it fluffed up. Each washing & dry will make it more snuggly.

I secured the outside of the quilt with an extra strip doubled over instead of binding. It too is clipped. The stripe brightens the quilt and pulls it all together.

For the backing I used a bright directional print, but altered direction of the design. SNUGGLE ...

Happy March! It feels like spring is right around the corner even though it snowed overnight. The sun is shining and the snow is quickly melting away. Many animals are still tucked away in their winter homes. I'm sure the little skunks are too! This month features a sweet little skunk. Our nephew Adam will graduate from high school this May, and I’ve completed his flannel quilt with a few months to spare.  Last fall I asked Adam if he had any special requests for his graduation quilt, or if he would trust me to select the pattern and colors. He texted back, “I trust you Aunt Taunja. Go for it!”  He’s such a great kid. I hope he loves his quilt!

Last spring, I made a college graduation quilt for Haley’s boyfriend.
