Feeling like Cinderella! from Appalachian Quilts

I do have to admit, as a kid I loved the story Cinderella.  I wonder if that is where my affinity for pumpkins came from.  I doubt it, but I do love me some pumpkins.  I love pumpkin anything - except don't even think about messing up a perfectly good cup of coffee with some flavored creamer.  That's just me.  (Understand that I don't even like for my food to touch on my plate, nor do I like things swirled in with my plain old ice cream, nor do I have any appreciation for my cake to touch ...

Frayed Edges from Appalachian Quilts

I don't know how anyone can get excited about frayed edges on a quilt, but we do!  I love the way they came out on my Seasonal Table Runners.  They just add some 'depth'.  When it first became a "thing", I just shook my head.

I have loved this Frayed Edge Pumpkin quilt since I made it.  I love the warmth and coziness it makes me feel.  Then again, I love fall!  I love the burning candles, the rustling leaves and the smell of wood burning in a campfire or stove.  I love the crispness of the air when ...

October Wrap-Up from From the Strawberry Patch...

I finished three books this past month; sad to report that D.E.A.R time was reallocated temporarily as I tended to a few other chores around here but I did manage to finish these thanks to a power outage (more about that later...

Leaving It On The Table from From the Strawberry Patch...

I mentioned this work table last week, it's exactly what I'd been hoping for when I'm doing ruler-work on the front side of the longarm. I had been improvising with a sheet of foam core (any port in a storm, right?), I needed something to hold my tools above the surface of the quilt while I worked my way along.Mr. Goodneedle picked up the hints that I was dropping and created the work table that

Rising from the leaves from The Academic Quilter

Hi everyone, and happy weekend! Well, we seem to have made it through yet another week. Every week I'm surprised when Friday comes, but I'm always glad to see it. Our weather here has been up and down, but the one thing that is very evident is that the days are definitely getting shorter. I saw a cartoon this week where a woman is panicky because she thinks it's midnight, but it turns out that it's only 5:30. It doesn't sound funny when I describe, but I definitely chuckled in recognition.

This has been ...

happy october . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

Hello October, I'm so happy that you're here!  It's *birthday* month and it's blog hop month, too!  :)

I finished stitching up Mr. Jack O'Lantern!
He's such fun.  But I felt he needed something a little more than a hoop or mug rug finish. I think I found (or rather, made) the perfect solution . . .
Yay!  It's a slipcover for a Christmas pillow I've had for ages. I may go back and quilt the face of it later.  Maybe.  Right now, I'm liking is just as it is, where it is!

I got ...

Autumn abounds from The Academic Quilter

Hi everyone! So, just like that, it's October. How on earth did that happen? While 2020 cannot be over soon enough for me, the year is just rushing by now. I guess this means that it's really fall, too, and the next season will be here before too long. With the pandemic and all, can't we just skip that and go right to next spring? That only seems fair.

I have another finish to share today! The closet full o' tops is slowly getting whittled down to just a few. Here is this week's finish:

Artsy ...

Hello, Autumn from Amy Made That

Hello, Friends!

It's been quite a while since I've posted.
Something happens every year,
that refreshes me and recharges my creativity...
it's called Autumn.

Here in Pennsylvania,
fall shows up for a day or two here and there,
before the leaves change
and summer goes away for a long long time.
It's perfect weather for a caramel latte
and some homemade pumpkin bread.

The colors of fall lift my spirits,
and they show up in flowers as well as on the trees.

My husband and I recently bought a Cricut Maker.
I hope to share lots ...

Mums The Word... from From the Strawberry Patch...

... well, actually autumn is the word; the chrysanthemums have been planted and there's most definitely been a change in the weather; cooler, breezy days have replaced the heat and humidity for a refreshing new perspective. I baked an apple pie this past week from the fruit that I picked while visiting New England the week before. It turned out great, no so with the InstantPot recipe for baked

Pin It Weekly #333 from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Hello Weekly! Do you remember when I wrote last week that I really wanted to paint a mason jar? Well, I did. It's not so much fun, actually.

I painted a few in fall colors. Then distressed them. Then put a sealant on them. The paint still wants to scratch off. I had conned Rich into making some crates for them, so they are going in my little shop at Griffin's, but I don't know about this painted glass business.

Notice the crosses leaning on the jars? There are three. Rich made those because (I think) it ...

Hello Fall! A Blog Hop from Stitchin at Home

Today is my turn in the 'Hello Fall Blog Hop'. Thanks to, Carla from Creatin' in the Sticks, for this great idea.

I was in Northern Ontario this past weekend at my son's, as you can see in the photo below the leaves are just starting to change. I love fall with its beautiful colours and with the weather changing to cooler temps it's time to start thinking of curling up under a quilt and reading a book or even binge watching Netflix.

a little inspiration

I had a project in mind with a bit of a Canadian ...

Pin It Weekly #332 from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

It's Weekly time! Here's hoping that you're having a fabulous week. I've been crafting. That's all. Crafting. And enjoying every minute. I thought I'd share some of the ideas that I've been toying with. I haven't made them all, but I'm hoping that the next week or so will see most of them complete.

I really want to paint a mason jar!

Who doesn't love wooden candy corn?!

And because I've gone a little crazy with the door hangers.

Hopefully I'll finish the door hangers that are waiting ...

splashing into autumn . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

Hey hey!  Just checking in before we head into the weekend.  We enjoyed a lovely, beautiful day on the lake on Monday.  The weather couldn't have been more cooperative.  We're at that time of the year where sometimes the water, at 85 degrees, is warmer than the air temp!
That means we spend LOTS of time in the water (because it's too cold to come out)!  The girls had a blast splashing and swimming. Edith even decided it was her day to jump off the boat into the water, multiple times.  She was a champ!  But we ...

All About the Academy! from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

It seems like just yesterday that Teri and I (Kara) were showcasing our very first Academy of Appliqué class offerings. It's hard to believe that 5 years ago, we were sharing our Secret Garden and Floral Wreath blocks. For our 2021 class, we are thrilled to be able to show you the first set of blocks in our Village Wanderings Series—Homes.

These quaint houses were inspired by European homes and cottages—specifically from Alsace, France. We fell in love with the old timbered structures and beautiful colors, so we turned them into these four seasonal homes "built" out ...

acorn tutorial time . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

These little fellows were just so much fun to make ... and to me they were especially endearing, knowing that their little caps came from our own trees!  They whip up really quickly and easily, so if my instructions are tough to follow, it's me, not them!

First, round up some caps!  We have a number of different types of acorn-bearing oaks in the camp, so I was able to find some different looking styles and sizes!
We've been really wet over the past several weeks, so after I picked up all the caps I wanted, I put them ...

Island Batik Top It Off Challenge: Fall Table Topper from Goer

The products featured in this post were given to me by Island Batik, Hobbs, and Aurifil.

This month we were asked to create a quilt to adorn a table for the holidays. We were required to use appliqué, though our project could be any size. My Fall table topper finished at approximately 20" square. I used Hobbs Thermore batting. It's a super low loft 100% Polyester batting, which should keep my table topper nice and flat.

I chose pumpkin orange batiks to create a scrappy slab for the pumpkin. This included Cheddar as well as a couple from the ...
