I love the first design today, but can see something I want to change … not a big change, but it needs to be changed.
The second design is boring when compared to the first one!

I started this project file by selecting 11 blocks, along with some fabrics, and started playing. The fabric choices for these designs are a bit dull, but I like subdued colours in a bedroom rather than bright ones … I want my bedroom to be restful.
My favourite today is the second design.

The blocks were chosen for the Elevenses projects, but I decided it was time for change.
Quilting became popular in Australia in the 1980s, and so many groups in cities, suburbs and in country areas are celebrating 40th anniversaries in the next few years, and I know of one state group is calling for red and white quilts for their anniversary, and a small country group is thinking about it, so I have joined the celebrations by giving project files a make over. I am one of many who started quilting in the mid 80s, and will have to make ...

I think I would call this a modern quilt design.
I have just watched a video about the conflict between traditional and modern quilters. I saw modern quilts which would look great on a wall, but would not look great on a bed, while most traditional quilts would look great on a bed where they keep people warm. Overall I am attracted to any quilted item with good use of colour and contrast, and some I would like on a wall, others on a bed. I would like to think that the design above, and most in this project file ...

I love the first design, especially those really faded fabrics which give an other wise boring background a little bit of depth. Sometimes a little contrast is just as important as strong contrast.
The second design would appeal to me much more if there was some low contrast in the background.
However, this is the quilt i might make if I was sick of machine sewing, and just wanted to get on with some quilting.

I like this one a lot.
Second design is ok, I like it but nowhere near as much as I like the first one.

The colours are a bit washed out, but I like them.
I like the mixture of pieced and applique blocks in the first design more then the pieced only collection of blocks in the second.

I love the ‘sashing’ effect of those lines of little squares!
Also love the pieced block design filling in the blank spaces as quilting.
The second design uses the little squares more like a border, and they are still very effective.

Don’t like the border fabric, but love the rest … soft, restful, and room for quilting!
I am going to spend some time softening up that border fabric for designs which will be shared in the future … I love this one too, but the border is too dark.

The second design has the blocks set on point and looks much busier.
My favourite for today is the first one.

I had almost forgotten I could use pieced block designs as quilting lines … should try it more often.
This second design reminds me that straight lines can be mixed with curved lines … not because I used it in this design, but because I used a part of an applique design as quilting lines on a pieced block.
I haven’t got a favourite of the three designs above … and I might take a break from sorting and naming blocks in my Electric Quilt library to add a few applique shapes to pieced block design to use as quilting!

I love the first design of the day … and of the week, and of the month!
The second is interesting.

Interesting.
Love the second one.
I love this one too.
So very different to anything I would normally even think of doing, so have to admit it was a mistake, but not a mistake I regret making!
