I’ve mentioned this before; my husband and I start the morning off with a reading of some kind and then discuss whatever it is we’ve just read. Today we read about relationships using thread as a metaphor, which was kind of perfect for someone like me. This quote was particularly appealing for obvious reasons. A […]
read moreA post on Tuesday! How odd! Not to alarm you, but I just wanted to share the results of my latest dyeing experiment. I made 3 sets of onesies using flowers and plants from the Texas spring bloom and Sun Reactive Dye. I've put them in my Etsy shop if anyone would like one (or two!)
You can see in this image how the dyeing process works. I work inside in low-light conditions, similar to developing photos, to apply to dye and place the botanicals where I want them. The dye goes on completely clear. A pane of glass ...

So I’m part of Mt. Battie Modern Quilt Guild, one of two local groups. This chapter, part of the MQG (Modern Quilt Guild) is the smaller of the two and is almost completely comprised of members of Coastal Quilters (the other group) which is part of the statewide Pine Tree Quilt Guild (Maine is the Pine Tree state). For once, I decided to participate in a round robin sort ...
read moreLouise has been putting her time at home to good use finishing quilts for Covered in Love at quite the rate! For anyone who is unfamiliar, Louise and I have had an arrangement for a while where I ship her UFOs and orphan blocks donated to CiL and she recombines them to make beautiful finished quilts!
She has a real knack for matching different projects and fabrics and I love her FMQ!

read moreWhat a fun weekend we had! Lucy Ann spent a few nights here with Nana and PawPaw, she was eager to complete the sewing portion of her quilt top from a few weeks ago; we had big plans to tie-dye the back for that quilt as well. In anticipation of this activity I ordered a tie-dyeing kit from Dharma Trading Co; it included everything needed for good results at home, this was a first time experience

"Chubby binding" is the preferred binding method of Kim Diehl and it is explained in all of her books. I spoke about it here, having used it on a quilt last month. The appearance is quite nice and the corners turn perfectly square each and every time. "Brother Bear" has been prepared with this

read moreI hung this on my design wall
and a couple weeks later an idea came wandering in. It took another day for it to introduce itself.
Once we started talking, I knew I’d met something cool and interesting. It gave me something to think about.
I will start cutting fabrics today because this idea is a restless one. If I don’t offer something interesting in return, I expect it will wander off and find someone else who will.
No fabric in or out this week.
I didn’t turn on my sewing machine all week. I thought about it. And I looked at stash fabric.
This piece I painted.
This piece I dyed and discharged.
I’m still thinking.
