Pin It Weekly #311 from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Happy Weekly! I have a special announcement tomorrow. Here's betting you can't guess, but it would be fun if you tried. :)
Today, though, it's time to meet a few new folks who have joined the Pinterest party.  Let's start with Rebecca Cameron who just followed all of my boards today! She has a "fan quilts" board that is rather unique.

1930s Fan Quilts

Say hello to Suzi Chankhio. I could not resist the hydrangeas on her flower board.

And finally we have Dana Å ubrtová who has a board called "soupravy pončo a čepičky" which means ponchos and cap ...

Project Quilting Final Project 11.6 from Stitchin at Home

I have been feeling a little unfocused these past few days, I know I'm not alone in that. I find when I'm sewing or quilting I can forget about those feelings for awhile. I'm in my happy place then.

Vibrant and Vivacious was the challenge hosted by Kim of Persimmon Dreams. I drew up a couple different ideas in EQ8. I knew I wanted to make this final project for a child at Ronald MacDonald house. What child doesn't like colour, and bright colours even more.

colour pops in dresden blades
I finally settled on a ...

◌ Washi Double Dresden Wreath ◌ from Charm About You

green and white dresden plate christmas fabric wreath by Charm About You

It feels wonderful to have a new version of the Double Dresden Wreath, made using the free tutorial I created a couple of years ago. The original was demonstrated on Sewing Quarter, the samples that hung in the studio stayed there, and I am so happy to now have one for our house. I made this wreath for my December project as an Aurifil Artisan, our challenge was to create a holiday themed project. Perfect for brightening any door or bare looking wall space, the wreath pattern is a merry make!

My original plan was slightly different but this was ...

Dresden Quilt.....Sashing Design from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

Yesterday I was undecided on what to quilt

in that pink sashing...

Today I pulled out the dry erase board

and began to play with a few designs:

Each of these designs

filled the sashing area nicely...

The big, round swirls look great

with the big, round feather plumes...

I am using wool batting...

my favorite for bed quilts.

Wool batting also shows off the quilting !

The first row of quilting is complete...

Three more rows to go and then the border.

I am using a quilt suspension system

to support this heavy quilt.

Patsy Thompson has designed

a suspension ...

Dresden Quilt....Under the Needle from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

I am in the Thread Shed this morning...

The Dresden Plate quilt is.....under the needle

I am doing a little ruler work...

crosshatching the center of the dresden plate

Feather Plumes on the dresden plates

as well as in the white background square...

I am still trying to decide what will be quilted

in the pink sashing...

This is an extra block I quilted recently:

I think the feather vine in the pink sashing

is a bit over the top....hmmm.

I will skip the pink sashing

and continue with the dresden block quilting

for now.

There is a ...

Dresden.....Extra Block from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

I finished up the Dresden Quilt Top

last week while I was in Idaho...

Dresden Quilt Top

I have developed a "good" habit of making

an extra block when piecing a quilt top.

I made a quick quilt sandwich with batting

and played around some on the

extra dresden block...

All of the negative space

behind the dresden plate

and in the pink sashing

just screamed for....FEATHERS !

The corners and center are cross hatched...

Large feather plumes on the dresden plate

and also surrounding the dresden plate

in the background...

I quilted this block on the Bernina Artista 200 ...

Kaye’s Dresden Plate from Quilted Joy

Dresden plates are one of those patterns that are easily recognized. It was especially popular in the 1930’s, though there are examples that predate the early 1900’s. As a result, we have many historical examples of this iconic quilt made in the pretty calicoes of the time. Most often created as an applique, the Dresden plate is a circle of fabrics radiating out from a center. These rays of fabric can end in points, curve like petals, or cut smooth in a circle. We’ve had a few different ones come into the shop. Because of these variances ...

Dresden Plate with a Jelly Roll from Cowtown Quilts

Making a Dresden Plate quilt was on my Bucket List (the mental list of the many, many quilts I want to try before I die). Problem is that I really am trying to use fabric I already have. I’m bad about buying jelly rolls, because I figure I can easily make something without having to cut all those strips. But, they sit in my studio.

So, for this quilt, I decided to use one of my Riley Blake jelly rolls. I don’t know if you can see or not, but there are 20 points on these Dresden Plates ...
