Working on the Paris Quilt from From My Carolina Home

Finally, a couple of days of no meetings or appointments meant I could get back to the Paris quilt. I am doing a simple Disappearing Nine Patch pattern. I cut the strips 5-1/2-inches by width of fabric, and sewed the sets.

One tip for pressing, press to the common print in both strip sets each time so the block elements will nest. I like to use unscented Best Press, diluted 50% with water. I get it by the gallon at Amazon, and one gallon has lasted several years by diluting it. It works just as well as full strength ...

Quilters love a classic and there are few blocks more classic than a Disappearing Nine Patch! In this incredibly simple Vintage Jenny tutorial, Jenny Doan demonstrates how to stitch up this easy block using Charm Packs. First you’ll use your 5″ squares of precut quilting fabric to create a giant nine patch (which is just as simple as sewing nine squares together) and after that, you’ll use your ruler and rotary cutter to quarter your middle square. These blocks work really well if there is a contrast in the colours and fabrics you choose, ideally you want to have light, medium and dark fabrics. It's ok if you don't though as it's perfect for scrap busting.


Cutting:


Square size can vary depending on the size of block and/or finished quilt you want - as long as all squares are the same size it doesn't matter. For the purpose of this tutorial, I used a couple of charm packs so my squares are 5 inches.
