Planning Holiday Meals from From My Carolina Home

This is the week I usually begin planning for our meals for Thanksgiving weekend. Not only do we need the full meal for the holiday, I like to do something different for the Wednesday night meal, and make plans for the leftovers. Last week, our local Publix put frozen turkeys on sale for 39-cents a pound, so I ran over to get two of the smaller 8-pound ones before they sold out of the little ones. I like turkey a lot, but 8 pounds is more than plenty for two people with leftover creativity. The second one I’ll save ...

Having just had turkey for Thanksgiving (with all the turkey leftovers), it is wonderful to do a special beef dish for Christmas.  Yes, a bit expensive, but it is Christmas and that is only once a year. Plus these are on sale this week.  Prime Rib roasts are not difficult to cook, just click on that post to see step by step how to do it.

It becomes a bit more ...

Surprise! from From the Strawberry Patch...

This blossom just appeared, out of the blue, on my Christmas cactus in the dining room. Only one; bright and white. This occurrence almost made my heart stop. As we prepare for Easter, albeit so very differently this year, my mind has fast forwarded to Easter dinner. "We have to pick up a ham" I said to Mr. G.; "it's just us, though" he countered. Easter dinner has always been a BIG deal in our
