A Duo of Zoo Dwellers Quilts for Twin Baby Boys from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

I'm again behind in posting about my own finishes and client quilts so I'm determined to get posts up to date, even with Girl Scout cookie season still happening here.

Before my Mom retired (a recent event that she wasn't thrilled about but needed to happen), she had a coworker friend who was expecting for the 1st time....twin boys.  Mom ask me to make a pair of baby quilts for them, with the thought of having them the same pattern but slightly different.

I went shopping at a quilt store while we were on a trip ...

Colleen's Sailing Quilt from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

My client Colleen has become a very proficient piecer in a short amount of time. I always enjoy seeing what she brings me to quilt for her.  This is her bricks quilt using sailing theme fabrics.
Unfortunately it was a rainy, overcast day so I had to take the pics indoors. The colors of the fabrics in this quilt were a lot more vibrant in person.
This is the "before" picture.  You can see here how much brighter the prints were.
When I stitch any quilt, I stop after getting part way on the first pass to look and make ...

Kathy's Pink and Black Flower Blocks Quilt from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

When my customer Kathy brought me her adorable chickens quilt, she also brought this pretty Pink and Black Flowers Block quilt.

The combination of colors that she used is very vibrant and it just needed the finishing touch.

Unfortunately with the practically daily rain and/or overcast skies we've been having here, getting really good pictures of the finished quilts is nearly impossible but trust me when I tell you it turned out gorgeous.
Glide thread in Military Gold was the perfect choice for the top.
The panto Surf's Up was fitting and I really like the way ...

Kathy's Adorable Chicken Quilt from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

My customer Kathy brought me an applique quilt of adorable chickens to stitch up for her.

This quilt is for her daughter, who actually purchased the pattern and the fabric and asked her mom to make it for her. Although this would have been fun to add great details with some custom quilting, Kathy wanted only an edge to edge design.

This is what the top looked like before any stitching was added.

Here a few of the cast of characters, both before and after.

I imagine Kathy had fun creating each of these blocks and her applique is fabulous ...

Colleen's Hunter Star Quilt from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

My customer Colleen called me to say that she had a big top to be quilted.  I couldn't wait to see what she created.  When she arrived with it, needless to say I was excited to get to stitch this one.  This is her Navy and White Hunter's Star Quilt.

This turned out so beautiful. Colleen is going to use this one on her own bed. I'm a tad bit jealous.
Here is the "before" photo.  It's a big quilt, measuring 98" x 98".  Luckily I have a 12 foot frame so I can fit big ...

Colleen's Green and Gray Star Quilt from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

It's always fun to see what my customers bring to me to quilt for them.  Colleen's creations never disappoint.  This is her Gray and Green Star Quilt.  Isn't it beautiful?

I actually remembered this time to take a "before" picture. As I've mentioned before, her quilts are always a pleasure to work on because they are well constructed.

She picked a new-to-me panto called London Fog and once I started stitching it I definitely liked how it turning out. So Fine Silver was the thread of choice for the top.
This is the completed quilt fresh ...

Charmaine's Tumbler Baby Quilts x 7 from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

My customer Charmaine has been busy again, creating a mountain of baby quilt tops and of course I had the pleasure recently of quilting them for her.
They were all her usual I Spy Tumbler design and they include such a huge variety of prints.
Since the tops are so busy, we pick a panto design that's not too detailed.
For this stack of tops, we chose the Fascination panto. Quilters Dream 80/20 batting was used for all.
She always provides soft flannel backings that are so snugly.
The last quilt was actually for her grandson.  Evidently he ...

Linda's Antique 9 Patch Variation Quilt from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

Last fall, my customer Linda, had contacted me to request my basting service for 3 quilts she planned to hand quilt.  Though I don't get these types of requests often, it is another service I offer.  Two of the quilts were smaller pieces and the third was an antique quilt she purchased at the Sisters Quilt show many years ago.  I was able to complete the basting fairly quickly and she picked them up when she dropped off her  Brown and Black Diamonds quilt

A couple of weeks later, when I called her to tell her that the Brown ...

Gail's Simple Patchwork Quilt from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

I'm grateful that one of the local quilt shops has been recommending me to their customers recently who are looking for someone to help them finish their project.  Gail is one of those new customers.  This quilt is for her granddaughter and her granddaughter helped with the piecing.

When I went to load it on my frame, I ran into an issue, as you can see here.  I took it off the frame, measured it in multiple places, and found that the measurements varied a great deal.  I took pictures and called my customer who chose to have me ...

Linda's Diamond Quilt from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

My customer Linda recently brought me this beautiful Brown, Black and Gray diamond quilt to stitch up for her. She told me that she made this pattern once before for a charity raffle and always regretted giving it away so she decided to make another one for herself.

She chose to do an asymmetrical finish for the borders.
This is the photo I took once it was loaded on my frame.

Her color placement and balance is fabulous and her piecing skills are near perfection. Every point was spot on.

I love working on projects like this one....where the ...

Carol's T-Shirt Quilt from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

Carol is a new customer and she brought me this t-shirt quilt to stitch up for her granddaughter.
We agreed that a medium size meander was the right design choice for this. Glide Cool Gray 3 thread was used on the top and a pale Gray So Fine thread was used in the bobbin.
I really like some of the shirts that were included in this quilt.  The Reeses's guy in the above photo and the Seven Dwarfs seen here are a couple of my favorites.  It's very rare these days to see anything Disney with the dwarfs ...

Charmaine's 2 Table Runners from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

The final few weeks of last year found me busy with the usual December craziness.....both kids' birthdays and all the craziness that surrounds Christmas.  Having a child who still believes in Santa (the older one has also yet to utter any suggestion that he knows the truth) is fun but exhausting.  The gift wrapping had to happen at a fast pace while they were in school, we had to remember to move our elf Twinkle every night and we had to set our alarm clock for midnight on Christmas Eve so we'd get up and get the gifts ...

Colleen's Santa Panel Quilt from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

Though I have a few more customer quilts completed to show you, this will be the last post of 2020.  Considering how difficult these past 9+ months has been overall for everyone, I just want to end this year on a sweet note.

My customer Colleen made this sweet Santa panel quilt for herself and asked me to add the finishing touch to it for her.

The vintage scene reminds me of many of the images of Santa that I remember from my childhood. She also added a couple of simple borders on the panel to make it a nice ...

Colleen's Vintage Truck Panel Quilt from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

Between shopping, decorating, preparing for the holidays and celebrating the birthdays of both of my kids, the month of December is always extra crazy for me so now that the largest extent of the tasks are over, I can catch up with the last of the customer orders that I've quilted recently.

This is Colleen's vintage truck panel quilt.  Vintage trucks seems to be a popular theme this year.  I've seen lots of new holiday decorations with the motif.
I don't remember who she was gifting it to, but I'm sure the person is going ...

Colleen's Blue Boxed Diamonds Quilt from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

This is Colleen's Blue quilt for the other nephew that I mentioned in the previous post but she used a totally different pattern. I can't say which I like better.  They're both great.

In process. The top thread is Omni Teal and although that sounds like it would look very Green-ish, it's actually a really pretty shade of Blue which worked perfectly for this one.

I truly love how the stitching takes a pretty quilt top.....

.....and transforms it into something fabulous. Whether the stitching is simpler edge to edge designs or intense custom work, once ...

Colleen's Blue Quilt from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

To say that I've got a lot going on these days is a huge understatement. Between shopping for gifts, decorating the house (the tree's not done but everything else is), both kids' birthdays this month, my own quilt projects with deadlines, a few customer quilts and Girl Scouts....there's a lot on my plate. This morning I'm taking a few minutes before I get back into it to share another beauty recently completed for a customer.

Colleen brought me this pretty blue quilt to stitch up for her.  It's a gift for one of her ...

Susan's Sailboats Quilt from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

My friend Susan worked on this adorable sailboat quilt for quite a while. I'd hear about it when she brought me other tops to quilt for her. I was looking forward to seeing it when it finally came my way for it's finishing touch.

I was excited when she called to book it on my schedule.  This is the "before" quilting photo.

In process.
She made this quilt for the daughter and son-in-law who own a sailboat.  Isn't it fabulous!
The Waterworld panto was her design choice. It adds the perfect feel for the pieced blocks. The ...

Susan's Vintage Truck Hunter's Star Quilt from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

My friend Susan also made herself a Hunter's Star quilt featuring adorable vintage trucks.

While the piecing is certainly great...

...it's the actual quilting that brings the whole thing to life.
This is what it looked like before I started.  It's a pretty top but it's flat and needs it's own type of bling, thread stitched in a fabulous design.
Here it is after the stitching was finished.  It definitely has a lot more character.
Whether it's an edge to edge design, custom quilting or hand quilting, every quilt top needs the stitching to ...

A Trio of Mask Baskets for Lisa from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

My friend Lisa asked if I could make a trio of mask baskets for her and her daughter and I was apply to oblige. Luckily I had a beautiful day for taking the pictures.
She asked if I could possibly use Blue and/or Teal as those are her daughter's favorite colors and nothing overly floral.  I think these fit the bill nicely.

For the first one I chose a Blue print fabric with random stars.
The lining was a Cream marble print.
I don't have Teal in my stash so this was as close as I could ...

Susan's Adirondack Hunter's Star Quilt from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

My good friend Susan made a pretty quilt for her camp in the Adirondacks.
This is the "before" photo.  Her fabric choices were perfect for it's future home.
You can see the deer head print and arrows print in this "before" close up.
Here's how it looks after.  The quilting added so much beautiful texture.
The after close up.  I love how it enhances the piecing.
The Falling Leaves panto was her choice for this quilt.
Her flannel backing fabric choice was also perfect for the Adirondack theme.
Knowing Susan, this quilt will be snuggled up under by ...
