Crocheting Again from Quilt Vine

A very interesting thing happened in 2023, I started crocheting again. It wasn’t even my idea. My daughter wanted me to make a baby blanket for my granddaughter. Oh, and I find it odd that they now refer to afghans as blankets. When did that happen and why did they ever call them afghans anyway?

Well, let me get back on track here. My daughter saw this daisy baby blanket on Pinterest and asked me to make it. I hesitated since I hadn’t crocheted since I started quilting 25 years earlier. But I do usually give in to ...

January 2024 - Time (again!) for UFOs from Grandma's Red Needle

 HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

So, here we go again; UFO's 2024
I was a slug last year! Out of 18 UFO's (quilts), I finished only one! And that was an Advent Calendar. I also finished two small cross stitched wall hangings
Did I make more UFO's to add to the list in 2023? Of course I did!
Thanks to the RSC (Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2023), I can add 4 UFO's to the list! Plus some scrappy blocks I started and a Patriotic Table Runner I had forgotten about. That makes it a total of 23 UFO ...

Design Wall Monday - October 16, 2023 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Good Morning Quilters!

We have been on vacation this week, and went to Lubbock, Texas to visit a granddaughter who is a student at Texas Tech.  She is a baton twirler with their band.  We had a nice week watching their great band, and going to see the football game on Saturday.  Their team lost, but we thought the halftime show was terrific, especially the baton twirlers!

Here’s a picture of us with her:

While traveling with our daughter to the game, our daughter crocheted, and I knitted.  Here’s our progress:

First, Christa made me “Frog and Toad ...

Design Wall Monday - September 25, 2023 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

 Good Morning Quilters!

Not much quilting going on here this week.  It’s been perfect weather in Michigan all week, and I’ve planted mums, bought a big pumpkin for the front porch, and canned some more tomatoes.  Fall has overtaken me, and I love it!  We live about a mile from an orchard that features homemade pumpkin spice donuts in the fall, and I may have overindulged on them too.  It’s all good!

The only crafty things I have to show you are some pink sparkly yarn princess crowns I am making for four little girls that are ...

It's that time of the year; to attack UFO's! from Grandma's Red Needle

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

So, here we go again! UFO's!
2022 was not a good year for me to finish UFO's. Out of 15 UFO's, I finished 2 only; an Advent Calendar (waited for thread) and a vegetable wall hanging. Actually I loved those fabrics so much that I used it all up! Click here to see the items I made. After I finished these, I totally lost interest and haven't touched the UFO's. I hope 2023 will be a better year to finish some at least.

Update ...

Design Wall Monday - August 30, 2021 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Good Morning Quilters!  if you recall, two weeks ago I blogged that I had started a baby blanket for a future, unknown Great Grandchild. Picture of the start of it:   Blog post here  I found the matching yarn skein, “Soft White”  to finish the project and took it with us on the drive to the wedding last week.  I worked on it all the way to Delaware and all the way back to Michigan!  Here is the

Design Wall Monday - August 16, 2021 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Good Morning Quilters!  This past week I’ve finished a couple of projects that I was working on.  The crocheted afghan that my daughter and I worked on is finished.  It will be donated soon to a Grand Rapids non-profit organization.  I found out that JoAnn’s Fabrics has the “Warm White” Red Heart yarn that I need to finish the baby afghan that I started for a future great-grandchild.  I will

Design Wall Monday - August 9, 2021 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Good Morning Quilters! This past week was small progress on several fronts, so I thought I’d post today an inventory of where I am on the current UFOs.When our daughter came to visit, she brought a baby blanket project to finish while here, and donate to a charity.  We discovered it needed tweaking.  She followed the pattern on how many chain stitches to start with, and it made the blanket 36”

Meet the Maker of One Big Happy from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

Jenny Fish, Knitter at One Big Happy

When and how did you first start knitting?
Almost 20 years ago, I had a Lucy moment and convinced my best friend Becca to go a knitting class. The class was a disaster.  I don’t think we ever got past the cast on row. Looking back, it was quite hilarious, but at the time I was so frustrated!!! After that we stuck to books from the library and local yarn shops for tips and tricks.

What advice would you give to someone who just started knitting?
Be Patient and Persistent. Knitting is ...

An Almost Normal Day from Quilting My Way

This morning I slept in later than I have in a long time. It felt good for the first time in awhile.

I played for awhile. Then Patrick wanted to go to DeGautie's (sp) for flower pots. So, we took a trip out that direction. We came back with 5 hanging pots. They were really pretty. Came home and Patrick worked on getting them set up on the deck. It looks great out on the deck. He put the watering system going.

While Patrick was doing that, I was beading.

I'm now at 135/207 rows. It's ...

Changing Things Up Today - WooHoo! from Quilting My Way

Can you tell I lived near Washington State University??! The WooHoo! came from there.

Today we got moving. I put in some laundry that I just realized I forgot about. So, I need to move it to the dryer here when I get done.

I went and worked on my beading. Got a row in when we decided to head out to moms and drop off some newspapers (2 weeks worth), and a few other things. She had said yesterday she wanted to work on a puzzle, so I went down and got 2 puzzles for her.

We went to ...

Delightful Doilies and Linens from the Mid Atlantic Quilt Show from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

A couple of weeks ago, Teri and I (Kara) were able to attend the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Show. We go there yearly, as it falls right before The Academy of Appliqué. It is a small show, but it usually has a great variety of quilts, and this year was no different. One exhibit in particular became our favorite, as it gave us lots of great ideas for our very large doily collection. This exhibit was created by Nancy S. Breland and was called Exploring Vintage Linens. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

It's A Finishing Day! from Quilting My Way

This morning I was getting ready for our meeting day. I had to get my floss box and take it with me to Brazilian Embroidery. I wanted to have it to figure out what colors I wanted to do for the "next" project. In other words, I was hoping to start another project after I finished my Roses in the Winter piece.

I got there around 10:15 am. Then we sat and talked about what classes we wanted to take for Seminar. I was happy to see Sandy wanted to take the same classes I did. I got all ...
