Cornerstone Logs + Black Crows 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

New project file started because I had over 500 designs in one. I saved about 100 in each of five project files and changed the colour combinations in each one.

A bit dark for me, but interesting design.

Like the design above.

There is an interesting effect on the computer screen of the five designs I have saved for today’s mid week retreat, where they are postage stamp size images ready to select to add to the post … the designs appear to by purple!

Perhaps I need another coffee, or maybe I have had more than enough already. Or ...

Cornerstones in Green and Gold 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting.

I like the second design!

Very different. I like where the green blocks near the corners are placed, offset from the position of the framed crosses.

An alternative title for the design above could be Square Dance.

The last one has a similar layout of blocks as the first design, but with slightly different blocks … very interesting changes.

I like the position of the mostly green design in the gallery placements!

That is all for this week, but there will be more Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

Logs on the Pile 76, 77, 78, 79, 80 from Virtual Quilter

Mostly Chimneys and Cornerstones blocks in the first design, but tipped on point in this project file.

Not many Chimneys and Cornerstones in the second design, but some Curved Log Cabins.

It is going to be hard to pick a favourite today … maybe the one above …

… or maybe the one above!

There are not too many variations of the Log Cabin block not represented in these designs.

More Log Cabin quilt designs next week … mid week.

Cornerstones + 76, 77, 78, 79, 80 from Virtual Quilter

I cannot remember if I was going to have a square on point in the centre, or four V shapes, but decided to keep it at the halfway point.

In my mind’s eye the square looks a little bit wider with that shape in the centre.

Love the one above!

Very interesting design above.

That is all for this week’s mid week break to examine some Log Cabin quilt designs.

More Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

Cornerstones 66, 67, 68, 69, 70 from Virtual Quilter

Every design in this series use 64 identical blocks known as Chimneys and cornerstones, or simply Cornerstones.

That means you can make the blocks while thinking about how you will arrange them in the final design.

I would advise that you concentrate while actually stitching to make sure you place all the fabrics in the correct order, and try to add any part of your fingers to the design.

Once you have a quarter of the blocks complete you can start playing on your design wall, or a bed or the floor to see what happens when you twist and ...

Cornerstones 66, 67, 68, 69, 70 from Virtual Quilter

Not my favourite colours, but I like the design.

I like the second one too. I love playing with contrast and design … colour is a more personal choice.

The middle one of today’s designs is OK, but doesn’t excite me.

Another one I like!

The last design for the day is probably the weakest link for me.

If I ever feel compelled to make a Log Cabin quilt I might choose the second one, but I would make a couple of modifications!

More Log Cabin designs mid week, next week so you can have a very short retreat ...

Cornerstones 61, 62, 53, 64, 65 from Virtual Quilter

Oops! We had an unexpected trip away at the end of last year … and during that time we, and friends we were spending time with, got a little confused about what day of the week it was … and we spent two days on the return trip instead of one … and so today is Thursday, which is past the middle of the week, but I had planned my usual mid week retreat and so what if it is a day late!

Does this mean that the new year has already gained a day … if so it will be February way too ...

Audition Block

Ready to Piece

Just Playing with HSTs

Mom was exasperated.
Can I have just one room that is clean and uncluttered?  One room where I can seat a guest?
Is that too much to ask?

Design Wall

Two Rows = Half Done

Yay for the Flimsy!!!

Mom is an early riser and by early afternoon she needs a nap. If mom was taking a nap in the bedroom, we girls would take our toys in the drawing room and play as quietly as possible. And although we kept the noise level to a minimum the clutter and the mess ...

Striking Latticework sets a quilt apart from Quilted Joy

Many of us have homes that are made of brick or stone. And when you talk about your house or the appearance of that house, we say, it is brick or stone. But it’s not just brick, is it? There is mortar that holds it all together. That mortar is important. You could sew the blocks right to each other, but sashing or lattices can really make a quilt pop. It can also help when your blocks are a little more unique and don’t match each other like they were supposed to. Either way, sashing with cornerstones is ...

Cornerstones 51, 52, 53, 54, 55 from Virtual Quilter

Sometimes I ignore some of the more basic project files for months at a time, then when I open them up I see designs which I still love. This file was opened last when I set up a new computer some time ago.

I probably have enough Log Cabin quilt designs using many of the variations of the basic block to keep sharing them for years to come, but perhaps I need some sort of roster so that some files don’t sit around for too long without a breath of fresh air.

Love the one above!

In contrast to ...
