A Little of Everything from ... Cat Patches

It was good to get back into the swing of sewing yesterday, but there was also some time in the kitchen. Ever since acquiring a 6-inch bundt pan, I've been itching to try reducing an existing cake recipe into a cake for two. Yesterday was the day. For reference, here's a link to the original recipe from Cooking Light. (Weirdly, the picture at that link is not at all the cake that goes with the recipe. Don't be confused...you're eyes are not deceiving you.)

So, anyway...a 6-inch bundt pan has a volume of 3 ...

Canning and Slow Stitching from ... Cat Patches

Two days in a row with no sewing, and the kitties can hardly believe their eyes. What is this world coming to? Sadie settled herself on the Wine Country quilt to contemplate what it might be like to take up drinking.

Smitty already has the market on catnip cornered, and so she thinks wine might be her only refuge from no-sewing days.

As for Smitty, he keeps parking himself in front of the glass door, hoping it will open again for him some day. He hasn't had a good gopher in weeks.

On the other hand, we did have ...

A Kitchen Day from ... Cat Patches

As expected, there was no sewing yesterday. I spent practically the whole live-long day in the kitchen. It was my choice, and I'm as much in my happy place there as I am when I'm sewing. Even though I thought I was finished canning for the year, I decided to give it one last gasp for 2019 and planned four projects for the weekend. Two were accomplished yesterday.

First, we got a stalk of Brussels sprouts in our last CSA share. That was quite a treat since they usually don't appear at the farm until the winter ...

Final Fourteen from ... Cat Patches

This morning's post is later than my usual. I'd like to say I slept in all this time, but no. There we were, sitting reading our email, when the power went off, and we found ourselves sitting in the dark. It was 6:30 a.m., and still dark outside too. The only light in the room was from our glowing iPads. I went to the Portland General Electric website to get the low-down, and found that the matter was under "investigation" and that power would be restored at 9:30 a.m. Later that forecast was revised ...

Playing Catch-Up from ... Cat Patches

The morning was busy yesterday, and when I got home, I needed a nap. It often happens when I'm out running around. When I get home, I just want to lie on the couch and cover my head with a quilt. Sleep generally follows.

Breakfast with Erik and Mae was first on my list. It was a small celebration of his birthday on Wednesday. Along the way, I needed gasoline. After I left him, I stopped off at the liquor store...to be fair, it's something we needed before we left on our trip to Colorado. And after ...

A Kitchen Day from ... Cat Patches

It was overly optimistic to think anything was going to happen in the sewing room yesterday. I spent the day in the kitchen. That's not a complaint...I enjoy cooking, and everything ended up taking longer than I thought it would. Things might have happened faster had I not gotten it into my head that I needed to start the day with a canning project. On the other hand, I really wanted those CSA carrots out of my vegetable crisper, and so I went ahead with this Carrot Relish.

Really, I was looking for a new way to use ...

Final Four from ... Cat Patches

It was another of those days where I was busy all day, but not in a way that encourages much picture-taking. My first task was to get cooking on the Spicy Plum Barbecue Sauce. This was made with the plums I picked from our tree. Before leaving home on our trip to Colorado, I picked and pitted the plums, and then froze them for future use. After thawing them in the refrigerator, they were added to the pot with the rest of the ingredients, and no one will be the wiser that the plums were first frozen.

Productively Unproductive from ... Cat Patches

For everything I did yesterday, I don't have a lot to show for it. Today will be much the same, I'm afraid. I had a nice breakfast with Sue. When Mike and I were adhering to the Cooking Light Diet, the diet introduced us to Avocado Toast. And now...it seems Avocado Toast is a dish of great popularity. One of the restaurants we frequent for breakfast is the nearby Biscuits. The last time I was at Biscuits, they had one menu choice of Avocado Toast. Now, they've expanded their menu to include four different variations on ...
