Tallit Commission: A Time for Machine Embroidery from Gefilte Quilt

Here's my latest commission, and although I live in California, and the client lives in the southeast USA, it was made with help from one of the best Judaica machine embroiderers on the planet, Marilyn Levy of Ontario, Canada. It's a tallit (prayer shawl) for a young man's bar mitzvah.

Diamond Ripples Quilt Top is Complete from Jan's Quilts

This is post-dated because I forgot to blog about it!  This will be the third quilt I've made for this family.  They are great people and I'm happy to help.  Dad is a West Point graduate and currently stationed in Belgium.  Mom is a civil engineer and currently not working except as a mom!  One thing that's great about this family is they always know what they want.  From Belgium, the mom ordered all the fabric, so she was sure the quilt would look like they wanted.  I got about 6 different packages because she couldn't ...

Pretty blues make this a cheerful quilt, and one I hope he will enjoy for many years to come.

I love the texture simple straight line ...

Same story as African Commission #1, which you can read about here. I convinced her that she should give me free reign on design for the second quilt. It was inspired by the center panel that she had purchased in Asia (I think China, but I don't recall exactly). The lanterns are based off of several Chinese lantern patterns I've ...
