This was a week of virtual conventions. I confess that I let most of the hours of programming pass me by -- Rotary, American Library Association -- just too much to keep track of. I did manage to participate in two ALA committee meetings. I tuned into the message from the outgoing and incoming presidents of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, as well as the AAUW-IL year-end wrap up. Meanwhile, Facebook had an Alpha Gam Stay at Home Convention. It was great fun to connect with so many sisters. I haven't been to an Alpha Gamma Delta convention since ...

I am bad about putting off the photography of my quilts--and a blog post without pictures is a bit boring. I finally got some taken today--yay me!

So of course now is a great time to start a new project? I should be working on all the UFO's but for right now this is fast and easy. I also found out I do not have many dark fabrics......I wanted this to look different from what I usually do with light, bright, happy colors. Maybe this is a reflection of the times?
This is the state of my sewing room, last week. It looks much more chaotic right now! I am using a lot of big prints that can be hard to work with in a ... read more
Hello all! How are you all doing? Show of hands-- who has resorted to cutting their own hair? Who has thought about it? Yes, me too. I need to get this hair out of my eyes really soon. Although I'm out of contact lenses, so I'm not sure I'd be able to see anything anyway.
THANK YOU all so much for your supportive and kind comments on my last post. I especially want to thank those of you who are no-reply and I couldn't thank personally. I really, really appreciate all your kindness. I'm doing ...
All of the blocks are sewn complete with border. Have to think of what to use for the backing. I loved having this quilt on my wall, it was comforting. The blocks are 20 years old- 1999- that I found in a bag of donated fabric. They have some signatures on the back and are from the LLQA of Illinois. I live in Buffalo, NY.
Now I have to find a suitable backing.
On National Quilting Day, I pulled out a stack of churn dash blocks found in a bag of donated materials. People give me stuff because they know I make and give comfort quilts. Sometimes, there are some gems of fabric or blocks found among the home dec and cut off curtain pieces.
The 29 blocks had some name stickers or names written on the seam allowances. I determined they were made in 1999 (some had dates next to their name) and they came from Illinois, because LLQA was written on a few block backs. I looked up LLQA and it ...
I have a New Year's Resolution going on my Two Bits Patches Facebook page. I'm sharing a patchwork pattern from the Kansas City Star newspaper that was published on that day. So far I haven't missed a day but I do not know how long this will last. If you to share in the marathon just 'Like' my Two Bits Patches page, or like a post or two. If you have a picture of one of the blocks in your own collection please post it as a comment so we all can enjoy it. The story so ...
read moreIt’s time for our very first Mini Block Monday and I’m piecing a Churn Dash block! This is one of my favorites because it’s so simple, but has lots of fun variations depending on how you place the colors.
Looking for a pattern for this Churn Dash block? It’s all in the video! I’m trying something new with these Mini Block Monday videos and including all the information in the video itself. Just hit “pause” when you need to and write down the pieces to cut.
Is that just not your thing? Here’s a ...
