A Spoonful of Christmas 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

Very interesting, but very busy.

However, if this was turned into a real quilt I would use a quilting thread the same colour as the background to add texture, rather than teh lines seen in the illustration, so it wouldn’t look near as busy.

Love the second design. Very interesting, but nowhere near as busy as the first design

Brooksea at Christmas, 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

Christmas is coming, so the decorations and lights are appearing in shops, homes, and blogs! Even this blog which features virtual quilts rather than real ones.

My reason for sharing virtual quilts is that I designs way too many quilts, just for fun, and real quilts over the Christmas period are very rarely required Down Under so the only excuse I have for to design them is to share them here, though I am going to print out a whole heap of them to create a real banner to hang across our bedroom window,. The plan is to laminate the ...

TOMTE or GNOME? from Kwilty Pleasures

A Tomte and Gnome are really one in the same.
The pattern I am talking about today is a Scandanavian TOMTE design.

I looked up TOMTE (pronounced tom-ta) and by definition
a Nordic mythological creature associated with winter solstice and Christmas season.
GNOME is also a mythological creature who is
an ageless and often deformed dwarf who is a good luck charm.

This is my finished TOMTE quilt.
I think of the little guy as my
OSU Gnome named BUCKY

As I was finishing this quilt....I also had a Modern Tree Quilt to bind.
I used the free tutorial ...

15 DIY Quilted Christmas Tree Skirts from Craft Gossip

This roundup is for sewing patterns for making your own Christmas tree skirts. All of the patterns in this roundup are for quilt-style Christmas tree skirts that use quilting techniques.  Tree skirts and tree collars are made for decorating the base of a Christmas tree.

So why do trees wear skirts? Early Christmas trees were decorated with flickering candles. The tree skirts were designed to catch the wax before it landed on the floor. They also cover the legs of a fake tree and give the cat something to claw at.

MY SANTA IS JINGLING AND JANGLING from Kwilty Pleasures

I am always behind the TRENDS in the quilting world.
I never hop straight on the band wagon.
I like things to simmer.
I like to figure out, if indeed, I want to make the make!

This SWELL Vintage Santa was one of those projects!
He took me right back to my childhood!

I saw a friend make this Jingle Jangle Pattern
and fell hard...like off the roof hard...for it!

But I didn't have any of the SWELL fabrics.
Cause I don't jump on the bandwagon!

Well before I know it...She sent me some fabric ...

A close-up of the quilting design.

FLAIRING CHARM PATTERN from Kwilty Pleasures

Because I always have more projects started than I realize...
I didn't disappoint myself while at the beach.
I took a fun pattern along called "FLAIR'
and thought I could work on this if I have time.
It uses 4 charm packs and background fabrics
cut into charm sizes of 5"

Of course I had enough charm packs,
actually CHRISTMAS charm packs.
The Christmas Card, Eat Drink and be Ugly,
The Cookie Exchange and Mistletoe.

I cut lots of scrappy low volume 5" squares.

What I didn't realize was...the pattern instructions
were to lay the skinny strips ...

Zoom Guild Meetings from Humble Quilts

On Monday I presented my Reruns: Quilts Inspired by the Past lecture/slideshow to Common Threads Quilt Guild in Colorado.

I love that we have many options now! The pandemic has forced us to be creative. They have a small group and I could see them all there! They had me on Zoom on a big screen. This is the first time I've presented in this way. Such a good idea for small groups that do not have the finances to fly speakers in to the area.

In person will always be the preferred way, but creativity is the ...

Getting Ready to Fold Up the Holiday Quilts from Quilty Folk

Christmas Stars is my first finish of the year! Yay! I had a couple other things to post about, but this needed to go on record before January was over and done with. Kinda late for a first finish {for me}, but what can I say? The binding work just didn't seem super exciting compared to some other options.

It looks so cozy!
After a little bit of back and forth about possible colors and shades for the binding, I finally settled on something of a medium green. It took several pieces of similar colors to make up the ...
