Blog-header

Hi makers!

My name is Karli and I am so excited to begin writing some blog posts for AGF! I work on tutorials and project creation here at AGF, so I am thrilled to be able to share my love of sewing and quilting with all you creative individuals, starting with these 12 Days of Christmas.

The holidays are upon us and with Christmas only 19 short days away, I’m sure everyone is busy sewing and quilting away to finish up all their gifts to give. Along with that, it’s time to double-check and make sure you have ...

Gifts and More Knitting from The Cozy Quilter

I'm still in full gift making mode around here right now so some things can't be shown yet.  I made two wide open zipper pouches and since the recipients already have them, I can share pictures.  I have made dozens of these pouches over the past few years.  It almost took longer to choose the fabrics than it did to make them! I had picked another colour scheme for one of the pouches and then discovered I did not have any zippers that went with those fabrics...back to the fabric storage area I went to pick something ...

Retreat Report from The Cozy Quilter

Last weekend, I attended a quilting retreat, my first in two years.  Everyone in attendance was double vaccinated and our tables were spaced apart.  I brought along 4 projects plus some mending to work on over the three days of the retreat.  My husband gave me a nifty folding cart for my birthday in February 2020 and this was my first chance to use it since I got it.  With the cart, I was able to bring in all my sewing stuff in one trip as well as my overnight bag.

My first project was my Buffalo Check Modern Snowflake ...

Today I have ideas for 16 Christmas gifts to sew that are quick and easy! This year is whizzing by and the countdown to the holidays is right around the corner. Now is the perfect time to make a list of Christmas gifts to sew that are fast and easy.

First on my list to make is an easy flannel scarf using Mammoth Flannel by Robert Kaufman Fabrics. They have a free blanket scarf pattern that looks unbelievably easy. Last year I bought six different colors of that flannel and never got around to making the scarves. I’m hoping ...

Christmas Quilts with 12-inch Quilt Blocks from Pieced Brain

Christmas Quilts with 12-inch Quilt Blocks

Make quick Christmas Quilts with 12-inch Quilt Blocks that you forgot you had! Simple layouts translate into fast gifts or holiday decor.

Last Saturday, after writing a pattern I decided I wanted to spend the rest of the day sewing. I actually wanted to see if I could make a quilt with some test blocks I had. You know that when I test blocks I try to use similar fabrics for many of them so, down the line, I can just put them together into a quilt. That was my mood that day.

The quilt above was the first one ...

Christmas in June and More from The Modern Diary

Finally got outside early one morning (to avoid the heat--which has now finally left us) to get a good picture of Wild and Goosey.  Thinking it might be big enough but...
I got started on some Christmas presents and made a tool belt for Bear, Hazel and some other little one.
Made several fun frogs and gave one to Jay since he admired it.  Will be giving one to Colton and one to Lily and one to who knows who.
On Monday my best friend Monica and her hubby came to visit (they went to a Brewer game Sunday and ...

June is for Purple! from The Modern Diary

I finally had an easy time with this block now that I am on number six and have written tips on the pattern (start at the bottom for example).  I ordered another aqua fabric which hopefully works with this one since I do not have anything of similar shade in my entire stash.  I never knew there were so many aquas!  I do not have enough for framing each block so I thought if I did half in another aqua and put it all together it would look decent.  Linking up with SoScrappy!

I organize my strings each month too ...

quilty gifts from Making A Lather

I had some great Christmas gifts from my hubby. Probably a big favorite is my new mister for spray starch. He also bought a gallon of best press. I really like how it works. At our last sew in, the hostess made home made spray starch with vodka. It worked great too, but, I wouldn't know my way around a liquor store. I plan on starching everything. haha

I asked for these go dies. I own the studio and usually stick to studio dies, but these were a good deal. And I want to try ...

The Gifts of Christmas from The Cozy Quilter

Our daughter has been very busy over the last few months, working on gifts for us and her grandmother. I knew about the bee picture for her grandmother, but had no idea she was making something for us as well.  "Home for the Holidays" was a stitch-along at the Barmy Fox on Instagram.  Each day for 3 1/2 weeks, there were new stitches to learn and add to her picture. It looks great on our mantle with my little gnome. She learned several new stitches including the whipped backstitch, the feather stitch, the open and closed fly stitch, padded ...

Santa's Helper from The Cozy Quilter

Last week, I mentioned that I had made a surprise gift for a friend.  This block was one of 12 free blocks --part of the Quiltmas Spectacular Block sampler that is available for free until the end of December 2020.  I have printed all the blocks, hoping to make several over the next year or so --somehow incorporating them into gifts for next year.  This block is called "Santa's Helper".

My quilty friend, Sandra, posted the picture below on Instagram recently, and once I saw this block pattern, I knew that I had to make it for her.

More Christmas Gifts from The Cozy Quilter

We are one week closer to Christmas and my gift making is just about done.  I finished off this knitted face cloth this week and it has been gifted to a friend.  For me, one of the best parts of Christmas is making gifts for family and friends.  Since I learned to knit this year, all of my friends received a little knitted something in their Christmas parcels.  I delivered my friends' gifts this week.

I started one more facecloth this week, just because I had the yarn to make it and I like to keep myself busy, especially when ...

Gift Making from The Cozy Quilter

This has been a busy week with not very much time spent in my sewing room.  I did manage to make a zippered pouch as a gift for a swap with one of my guilds. I need to get this in the mail this week so it had a deadline!  The pattern is from Noodlehead...I have made several of these pouches as gifts over the last few years.  I don't even need to look at the instructions anymore!

I have a stash of zippers in various colours for these pouches so I am always ready to make a ...

Christmas Thread Set Gifties from Sew Karen-ly Created...

Last year, looking for quick and unique gifts, I stitched up this cute little poinsettia mat using Aurifil 12 weight thread. It was fun to do, and I ended up making several of them.

I printed the pattern and instructions, and put together little Aurifil thread kits, perfect for Christmas stitching and gifting. Last year these were the Christmas special at the various pop-up shops and venues where I was vending, but this year being what it is, they are now available from the website.
These pieces have all been stitched on my regular domestic sewing machine, set up for ...
