Favorite Handmade Tree Skirts from A Quilting Life

Favorite Handmade Tree Skirts featured by Top US Quilt Blog, A Quilting Life

I have always loved Christmas tree skirts! Since I just finished a new one this weekend, I thought I’d share it along with a couple of my other Favorite Handmade Tree Skirts. A patchwork tree skirt was actually the very first “quilt” I ever made. I remember cutting out the squares using regular scissors and […]

Spool Star Holiday wreath from I Patch and Quilt

Do you remember the small wallhanging that I made using my foundation paper pieced Spool Star block? Playing with the Spool Star block is turning out very inspiring. So many ideas!

Let’s look at the first new layout, a Holiday wreath!

The traditional red and green, with some vintage-style blue and pink.

This block works so well with solids or blender-type fabrics, which I have a lot of….

Merry Christmas from Wendy's Quilts and More

Merry Christmas everyone.  I hope you have a lovely Christmas Day with friends and family.  I know Christmas will be quite different this year for many of you, but I still hope that you have a special day.

We'll be with my family at my parents' house in Auckland, so that will be nice.

Here's yet another photo of my Gingerbread Village (details here).  There's no Gingerbread Flower Shop yet, but there will be by next Christmas in 2021.  I've finished the front and one roof panel.

Merry Christmas to you all - and thank you to ...

Christmas decorating fun from Quilting & Learning

I love seeing our Christmas tree full of ornaments bought, inherited, received and made over the years. It's also the time when those Christmas runners, placemats and wall hangings get to come out and shine.

Adding to our Christmas decorations

Each year I try to make a little something for the tree or the house. I found the tutorial for the Christmas bell - the bell was supposed to be made of "sheer paper cloth" but I used organza backed with light stabilizer instead. The stabilizer gave the organza a crispness without removing the translucence. For the three-sided bell I ...

It's Christmas Time from Wendy's Quilts and More

My work is finished for another year, and I'm looking forward to some quality quilting time.  Long, warm summer evenings, and lots of sport on TV - that combination makes for great stitching time.

I've got so many things on the go at present, so I really hope I can finish some of them before the end of January.

I thought I'd show you some of my previous Christmas quilts today.  Of course it's summer here in New Zealand, so we don't need Christmas quilts on our beds.  Instead we tend to make wall hangings and ...

Midwinter Christmas continues from Wendy's Quilts and More

Some of you asked to see more of the Christmas quilts I took to Pinestream Quilters last weekend.

Well, first up was my Oh! Christmas Tree quilt designed by Wendy Williams.  You can read more about it here.  I love this quilt because it really does represent Christmas in New Zealand and Australia.  It's all bright and summery, and that's how our Christmases are here (even though I used snowflake fabric for my background).

I loved doing all the wool felt applique.

It's hand quilted with Aurifil of course!

I also took along Flocks by Night, another ...

Midwinter Christmas from Wendy's Quilts and More

Tomorrow I'm going to a midwinter Christmas celebration at one of our local quilting guilds.

My Gingerbread Village

Some people in New Zealand and Australia like to have midwinter Christmas celebrations, and do all the things it's usually too hot to do at Christmas - like drink mulled wine and eat roast dinners.

I've been asked to bring along some of my hand made Christmas decorations, and my Gingerbread Village in particular.  If you're a new follower, and haven't seen my Gingerbread Village, you can read all about it on the tab at the top of ...
