Sunday Stash February 5, 2023 from Quilt Paint Create

No fabric in or out.

I squared the pinwheel quilt and made the binding (out of fabric I bought last week). I hope to finish it this week.

I also made a runner out of strip sets and odd strips from the box I bought last week. Do you see a theme here?

It’s the perfect size for where I want to put it. It just needs quilted and bound.

Maybe the quilting gods will smile on me and I’ll finish them both before the next report.

January 2023 OMG Finish from Quilt Paint Create

My OMG for January was to finish quilting the pinwheel top.

I had to set the project aside to meet a deadline on another project, but that deadline moved forward and I was able to finish quilting the pinwheel top. I quilted it using the serpentine stitch on my machine.

I can’t wait to finish this one in February. The quilt will go to Safehouse, a battered women’s shelter in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It is the charity supported by my Guild, the Greater Ann Arbor Quilt Guild.

I’m linking to Elm Street Quilts, where you can see ...

What Next? from Quilt Paint Create

The challenge quilt has been my focus, but it no longer has a deadline. The group will not submit quilts to AQS this year after several members had a whole lot of life happen recently, not in a good way. Maybe next year.

My attention switched back to the pinwheel quilt, which should be finished in the next week. I will continue working on the challenge quilt (note to self – come up with a real name), but I need another project. The creative possibilities for the challenge increased when the time constraints disappeared. Sounds like an opportunity to experiment.

Sticking ...

Sunday Stash January 8, 2023 from Quilt Paint Create

No fabric in or out.

I basted the top section of the pinwheel quilt this week and quilted half of it. It’s going quick, 15 minutes every other morning.

I’m also working on the challenge quilt. Not much to show yet. It’s one of those projects that will come together all at once. Meanwhile, it keeps everyone guessing.

I’m grateful for any time I get in the sewing room moving any project forward.

January 2023 OMG And Short List from Quilt Paint Create

Happy 2023! I love the start of a new year with its feeling of a clean slate and endless opportunities. It’s a time to re-evaluate and change directions.

I started The Short list many years ago. Some years it works better than others. I continually change the categories to reflect my goals and interests.

I have goals this year to finish eight sewing projects, two stitching projects and fully finish three projects I have already stitched. I define the categories rather than choose specific projects because picking projects in advance never works for me. The Short List will reflect ...

Sunday Stash January 1, 2023 from Quilt Paint Create

Happy New Year! Best wishes to everyone for a healthy and joyful 2023.

With the finish of the pinwheel top I managed to end the year in positive numbers. Good thing because I planned to donate fabric to get me to break even if needed. I was determined not to end the year with more fabric in than out.

The plan for today is to get half the pinwheel top basted. I’ve also started working on another project but haven’t made much progress.

I have big plans to finish more quilts this year than last. We’ll see ...

December 2022 OMG Finish from Quilt Paint Create

For my December OMG, I decided to finish the two halves of the pinwheel charity quilt. I plan to quilt it in sections, which is why I didn’t sew the two halves together.

I picked this project up off the charity table at Guild. The bag contained partially sewn HST pieces, very few cut apart, and a picture of a quilt top. I ditched the picture, sewed the pinwheels and designed the quilt from there. I added a few of my own pinwheel blocks, the colored fabrics in the borders and all the black and white fabrics.

All things ...

Sunday Stash December 24, 2022 from Quilt Paint Create

I’m posting a day early because of the holiday. I hope everyone enjoys a wonderful day with good company and good food!

No change in the numbers.

We are down to the last week of 2022. Most of you have used amazing amounts of fabric. I am in awe of how much you accomplish.

I have extra time off this week and am pushing to finish the pinwheel top and log positive usage. I’ve added the extra top and bottom sections, plus the black border all around. It needs one more border of the polka dot fabric to ...

Sunday Stash December 11, 2022 from Quilt Paint Create

No change in the numbers.

I have the main body of the pinwheel quilt sewn into halves.

It needs borders, more on the top and bottom and less on the sides. A cutting mistake in the coping strips provided a new design opportunity.

Now that I look at the picture, I see one of the blue pinwheels is turned the wrong way. Should I fix it or leave it?

December 2022 OMG And Short List from Quilt Paint Create

This has been the fastest year ever! Hard to believe it’s December, time to wrap up the old and think about plans for next year.

I had one finish in November, the fused challenge piece. Not much else has changed on the list.

Project One: The Tiny Modernist Holiday 2022 SAL. I keep plugging away. Most of what you see is part of the second release. I haven’t done any of the backstitch yet.

Project Two: The pinwheel charity quilt, to the point of sewing rows together. I decided to quilt it in two sections. We’ll see ...

No change in the numbers.

I’ve been working on the pinwheel quilt this week. All the blocks are sewn into rows, and several of the rows are sewn together.

It’s a work in progress, but you can get the overall pattern from the picture.

I feel like this quilt has been in process forever, and I’m ready to move on.

A Nod to Progress from Quilt Paint Create

Finally, something that resembles progress on pinwheels.

I sewed the first two rows together, but not to each other.

The quilt is much brighter than it looks in the picture. I’m hoping it will bring a smile to someone that doesn’t often have something to smile about.

Onward.

November 2022 OMG And Short List from Quilt Paint Create

I have no idea what I did in the sewing room last month, but I don’t think it amounted to much. Maybe my goal for November should be to show up. Sometimes back to basics is best.

The project list repeats last month’s.

Project One: The Tiny Modernist Holiday 2022 SAL. All parts have been released now. There is so much stitching on this piece! My goal is Christmas 2023. I am pleased that it’s starting to look like something.

Project Two: The pinwheel charity quilt. I’m sewing setting squares to pinwheel blocks. A design opportunity ...

The task this week is cutting -cutting blue squares for traffic jam and polka dot squares for pinwheels.

I may sprinkle some sewing in there to break things up.

Projects like this makes me wish I had one of the cutting machines.

October 2022 OMG Finish from Quilt Paint Create

My OMG for October was to finish all the pinwheel blocks and add coping strips. I’m happy to report that all 60 of them are done.

Now I can start sewing the top together. I’m ready to get this one finished and donated.

Sunday Stash October 23, 2022 from Quilt Paint Create

No change in the numbers.

I finally made it into the sewing room. I needed to count pinwheel blocks, see how many I was short and finish them up. I also did a small mock layout.

That’s when I noticed something wasn’t right.

Best I can figure, I cut the coping strips too narrow. That means the quilt doesn’t measure up to the donation size.

I cut enough pieces to add an extra row down the side and get the needed width. I’ll come up with something creative to add enough length because I am not ...

I hope to finish the last few blocks and cut setting squares this week.

Sunday Stash October 9, 2022 from Quilt Paint Create

Nothing to report this week.

Most of my time went toward sewing coping strips on the pinwheel blocks. The picture shows the difference in strip size between the smallest and largest blocks.

The rest of the blocks fall somewhere in between. I’m hoping it won’t be too noticeable in the quilt since the blocks won’t be set side by side.

October 2022 Short List and OMG from Quilt Paint Create

The days are shorter, the air is cooler and Fall is here. That means more time for sewing and stitching, right?

I finished two projects last month, My Sewing Treasures and a project bag. Only one new project made the October list.

Project One: The Tiny Modernist Holiday 2022 SAL. I had a slow start and am way behind. The pattern has more stitching than I anticipated. I’m about 1/3 through the first month but have the patterns for the first two.

Project Two: The pinwheel charity quilt. I’m framing the pinwheel blocks to get them all ...

Sunday Stash September 11, 2022 from Quilt Paint Create

No change in the numbers.

I worked on the layout for the pinwheel blocks this week. I’d like to have that quilt done by mid-November or it will sit here until March. My Guild doesn’t meet in person in January because of weather. Many people travel a fair distance to the meetings, and big snow is a deal breaker.

This may be the final setting, although there are fewer pink pinwheels than shown in the mock up.

I also have a version where the the alternate blocks and sashing are black with white cornerstones. It’s more striking ...
