Weathering the Storm from Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends, and Happy Valentine's Day! We're not doing anything to celebrate today, but we have dinner reservations for Sunday. I'm just hoping we can get to our downtown restaurant choice.

It was a miserable day of weather yesterday. Smitty could scarcely believe his eyes.

He demands an explanation for these apawminable conditions.

By noon yesterday, we had about three inches of accumulation.

The freezing rain didn't start until last night. There was just a little more snow accumulation. This is how it looked this morning.

But remember that view from my window yesterday ...

Things in Threes from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We're going to get three kinds of precipitation over the next day or two. It has already started. We're expecting snow, sleet, and freezing rain. And one might as well say "lions, and tigers, and bears!" Looking out my window as I'm writing, it has already started.

It doesn't look like much now, but it's going to get a lot worse. I'm hoping the freezing rain won't do too much damage. Ice is the worst and the hardest on our landscape. Also, Matthew has a vacation in Mexico planned ...

Vintage Quilting from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's another bright and sunny day, but man...burrass cold. I'm writing fast this morning. It's a chilling thought (did you see what I did there?), but in a little bit, I need to leave to get my hair cut. Also, I need to stop off at the grocery store and pick up a few things we'll need to get us through the weekend. We'll do our regular grocery shopping next week.

My yesterday started with this view: Ears to you!

The first of the final three blocks is finished now ...

What's New? from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's a crisp, cold, bright, sunny day here. We're expecting this weather for at least the next couple of days. Last night I received a notification that snow would begin to fall in our area around 7:30 p.m. and that it would be "heavy at times." Well...there's no new snow, and I think the threat is gone for now. It's a good thing because I need to get my hair cut tomorrow, and I want to pick up a few things at the grocery store while I'm out ...

Great Outdoors is Great Again from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's a frosty and cold morning here at the Three Cats Ranch. Freezing fog was in the forecast, and that's exactly what we got. We still have patches of snow left from last week. Now, everything is coated with a slippery sheen. I don't know about you, but I'm staying inside today. The last thing I need is to slip and fall and break another bone.

Let's talk about yesterday, shall we? With Mike's help, the Great Outdoors quilt was snipped and washed. I'm really happy with how this ...

The Reveal: Daisy Mosaic from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends, and welcome to February. I'll tell you about yesterday's sewing toward the end of this post, but first...the day has arrived to reveal the "Mosaic" project for The Endeavourers art quilt group. I'm happy to say the group will be continuing on for at least another year. "Mosaic" was the last prompt selected, but we have a whole new raft of prompts to start off our new art quilty year.

For this project, I wanted to try a technique from this book by Timna Tarr. She has a page on Facebook, and ...

January Last from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We're just about to say hello to February. We're another month closer to the departure date for our Fifty-Fifty trip to Alaska (that's our 50th state during our 50th year of marriage). I keep reminding myself it will be on us before we know it. I've made reservations for the first several days of our trip, and the rest will remain open. For this trip, we'll play it a little looser than usual and keep the length of our stay in any given place more flexible. It's a little too ...

Challenge Complete from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's a bright sunny day, but still very cold. Brrrr. If it weren't so cold out, it might be a nice day for a walk. But it is cold, so...nah. I'll stay inside where it's warm and do my walking on the treadmill. Also, there's plenty of walking between my sewing machine and my ironing board. Quilting: it's good for your health and stamina.

Usually I'm doing my quilting first before anything else, but I really wanted to finish off the challenge piece, and so I started there ...

Ombre Sunset from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a busy day yesterday. All sewing, all the time, with a little bit of baking thrown in for good measure. What could be better than that? Well...maybe winning the lottery, but first one must actually play the lottery.

Finishing off the stitching for the small Catmint piece was at the top of my list. This will still need borders, quilting, and binding. I have some cute fabrics to finish it off.

There was still a little time left in my slow-stitching morning, and so I started stitching the names and places for the ...

Sashing and Gnashing from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. When I wrote yesterday's post, I completely forgot it was the day a new prompt would be announced for the Project Quilting challenge. Late morning, after I'd done as much quilting as I'd planned for the day, I checked my email, and there it was. The challenge this time around is "Ombre."

Well that threw me. I spent a good part of my afternoon sewing time gnashing my teeth about what I could do for this. My initial reaction was to skip this one, but then I get a bad case of the ...

Project Quilting 16.1: Mythical Creatures from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Once again, I’m writing fast. Poor Sadie has to go to the vet this morning. There’s been no bloodshed so far, but one can never rule that out when Sadie is being transported somewhere against her very strong will. Honestly, for her size, she packs a punch. But, let’s not focus on that right now. I’m afraid she’ll be reading over my shoulder, and realize what’s in her future.

So it took me two days to finish my piece for the “Mythical Creatures” prompt. After thinking over several ideas, I ...
