A Scrap Mixology Finish from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I am finally feeling like I am making some progress on some of the projects cluttering up my sewing room.  It is such a good feeling!

Today I am sharing another Scrap Mixology quilt using the Bloom pattern.  This block is a variation of a basket block that is uniquely laid out to create this wonderful design.

This layout is featured in the pattern.  When I released the pattern, I thought I could go without making a sample of this design, but I just kept thinking how cool it would look in these colors.  So, I finally just had to ...

Oh Scrap! : More Block Progress from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Wildfire smoke has been so bad in my area that it is difficult to be outside much.

So that means I have been inside sewing a bit.

Hurray, I finished the last two letters I need for my quilt show booth banner.  Which is good because I am the featured quilter at the Westside Quilters Guild show in Hillsboro Oregon the first weekend in October.  If you are in the area, I hope you stop in.  I will be giving free talks on scrap management each morning.  You can read more about it on their website.

I also finished the ...

Oh Scrap! : Scraps Galore from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I almost forgot to get this week's Oh Scrap! post written.  The exterior of my house was painted this week so there was a lot of activity going on.

This weekend was spent putting back all the things I moved away from the house and making sure everything was finally watered well.

I am still working on the last eight Bloom blocks for one of my projects.  I have been busy sewing and trimming all of the required half square triangles.

I am so close to having these all completed.

Here is the current condition of my cutting space ...

Oh Scrap! : Bloom Blocks from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I have been in my sewing room a ton lately, but I don't really have much to share today.

Many hours have been spend sewing together Covered in Love Quilts...

Still working on a number of green and orphan block placemats for Meals on Wheels....

Scraps are getting cut for future blocks...

Every evening I have spent a couple hours hand quilting a vintage top...

I never did find my green squares that were misplaced so I recut more and finished the last four green blocks I needed for my May Bloom blocks.

I just need some orange blocks ...

Oh Scrap! : Finally some Progress from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I finally found some time to get caught up on a few of my scrap projects.

In fact, I even started a new one!

I finished my last green letter B for my booth banner.  This was the RSC color for May.  Now I have THREE to make in Blue for June.  Yikes!!

(One lonely switchplate block was sewn this week too.  I need to cut some yellow centers for all the green strips I cut so I will just finish them this month.)

I finally got to my little pile of previously cut squares for my Bloom Mixology blocks ...

Oh Scrap! : Transitioning from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

It is a new month so that means a new RSC color.  April is pink so I have been busy sorting out my pink scraps and organizing which of my projects need the color.

But I still needed to finish up two more of my Bloom blocks in yellow for last month.  This project requires no pink blocks so I will not need to make any blocks for this quilt in April.

After sorting my pink scraps, I did get one of my Two Bits blocks completed.  I already made a few pink blocks last year for this project so ...

Oh Scrap! : More Yellow from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I actually sewed quite a bit this week.

But I sure do not feel like I have much to show for it!

I did sew this little 4" tall block.  I think it took me most of the week!

I am looking forward to April's RSC color to see what letters I get to sew next.

I also sewed up two more of my Bloom blocks.

I still have two more yellow blocks to make.  I have the HSTs finished but they need to be trimmed and sewn into blocks.  It shouldn't take me too long to finish ...

Oh Scrap! : RSC Blocks from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

The sunny days have turned rainy here so I was able to spend some time in my sewing room.

I finished up all of my Chaser Blocks in Yellow for the month of March.

I love this project more with every month's worth of blocks added.

I also finished two more of my Bloom blocks.  I still have four more yellow ones to make for the quilt design I am making.  Hopefully I can get to them next week - they are all cut, I just need to sew them up.

And lastly, I finished up my letter R for ...

Oh Scrap! : RSC Blocks from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I finally found some time this week to start sewing up my yellow scraps for my RSC blocks.  I don't really have a lot of yellow scraps so I spent a lot of time sorting my scraps into little piles that were the right size for each of my blocks.

Then I cut all the necessary bits to size.  Now I can easily sew them up!

I finished one more of my RSC Two Bit blocks.

I already have three yellow blocks from last year so just one is needed.

I also need a total of eight of my ...

Oh Scrap! : RSC Blocks from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I finally found some time to sew some of my Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks for the month.

I finished up my pretty Scrap Mixology Bloom blocks in aqua/teal.
I love each and every one of these blocks I make!

I made a total of four in some darker teal scraps.  And four more in slightly lighter shades of aqua.

They are now up on my design wall with the red blocks from January.  I am looking forward to seeing this one come together!

I don't have to make any of my Scrap Mixology Chaser blocks in February because ...

Oh Scrap! : More Red Blocks from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

This week was a pretty productive one.  I worked on about 4 different projects and made some great progress.  I finished all the blocks for my UFO quilt and am busy sewing up the rows.  I made two more placemat tops that I can quilt up soon.

On the scrap front, I made four Bloom blocks in red.  This is a new project I am starting this year.

The four blocks will go together in the quilt like this.  I have had one of the medallion layouts shared in the pattern stuck in my head so I know I just ...

The Best of 2021 from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Every year, Cheryl over at Meadow Mist Designs, hosts her "Best of " linky party.  I have joined in the fun for quite a few years now.

I like that it makes me look back on the year and enjoy the quilts I finished.

This year was all about scrap quilts.  An early quilt I made was this blue and brown courthouse steps quilt.  I was initially thinking my sister might want it once she finishes building her new house.  But one day my neighbor came over and wanted it for her newly refurbished livingroom.  I couldn't argue - it looks ...

Oh Scrap! : RSC2022 from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

With only a few more days left in 2021, I thought I had better make a final decision on what Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks I am going to make for 2022.

I am keeping it simple this year!

This one is a carryover from last year.  I still need about 11 more blocks in lots of different colors.  I was hoping to just finish it up this year but I think at this point we can agree that is not going to happen.

These blocks are used using the Two Bits Scrap Mixology pattern.

Last year I made a few ...

Another Bloom Finish from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I hope all of you who celebrated, had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  I enjoyed a day off with few work responsibilities.  I am not a fan of the traditional turkey dinner so I like to stay home and eat foods I only allow myself a couple times a year.  It was so nice to just relax!

Today I wanted to share yet another quilt I made using the Scrap Mixology Bloom pattern.  This layout can be centered on the quilt or done asymmetrically like the quilt I made.

For this quilt, I used one of the block modifications included in the ...

Another Bloom Finish from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Boy, do I love today's quilt!

Remember this basket quilt I shared a couple weeks ago?  It was made using the 4th Scrap Mixology pattern module called Bloom.

Today I am sharing this lovely quilt made using one of the other layout options shown in the pattern

I really do love how this one turned out!

The scraps I used are very muted.  The colors were pulled from the dotted dark fabric.

I don't know why I love this quilt so much.  It is actually going to reside in my personal quilt collection.  This quilt isn't going ...

Bloom : Scrap Mixology Module #4 from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

For a few months now, I have been sharing a number of scrappy basket blocks that I have been making.  Today I am ready to start sharing the finished quilts.  The blocks were for my fourth module of my Scrap Mixology Series.  This one I am calling Bloom.

For the first quilt I made, I used a bunch of Kaffe Fassett scraps.  I loved how the bright vibrant colors looked in the blocks.  When the blocks are placed on point, they look like baskets full of blooms.

So that is how I laid them out for this first quilt design ...
