Black And White Finished (With Mini-Tutorial) from Wedding Dress Blue

When I found out that my best-friend-since-4th-grade’s daughter was getting married, there had to be a quilt.

And the daughter likes black and white.

And I had scraps.

The blocks came together very quickly: 2 2-1/2″ squares, 2 2-1/2 x 4-1/2″ strips, 1 2-1/2 x 6-1/2″ strip. Ta-dah! This quilt used 108 blocks and finishes at 54″ x 72″.

It will be mailed next week.

Black and White De-Stash..... from Mimi's Passions

I now ask myself "what were you thinking?" when I decided to use up all my black and white fabrics.  I guess I was just trying to make a dent in my stash and it appeared that the black and white department seemed do-able at the time.  Little did I know that we've all heard, scraps multiply in the dark and you end up with more than you started out with...or so it seems.

I just took the third black and white scrap quilt off my longarm.  The good thing about it though is that I finally used ...

FNSI Report from Wedding Dress Blue

Between Friday morning, Friday night and a bit of a push Saturday morning, I got the quilt cut out.

And about 30 blocks finished.

It sounds more impressive than it is, only 5 pieces per block.

But they are cute and will make an interesting black-and-white quilt.

The Last Thing I Needed from Wedding Dress Blue

It was the last thing I needed, so, naturally, it was the first thing I did.

Start a new quilt!

I have four that I am actively working on right now. This makes five.

One for each finger on my left hand? One for each working day of the week?

Oh well…the black and white scrap bin was overflowing.

2 Print More Modern HST quilt from Sew Sunshine

More Modern HST from 2020 in 2 prints. This was a QAL by lqg member Steph Jacobson over at Steph Jacobsons designs blog.

My quilt is made from the 12 main months of the qal. It measures approx. 60" x 60" I flipped the placement around to put my small print in the main blocks and the big black and white in the background. It was a fun experiment and the reason I did it was I had those two in my stash. I thought I had enough to do the extra bonus blocks but I did not. ha A ...

Black And Bright Complete from Wedding Dress Blue

YAY!  A finished quilt is a wonderful thing.

Black and bright started as a bunch of black and white print fabrics leftover (mostly) from three black-based quilts I made a while back.

Add the bright pieces and you are off!

And a scrappy binding. And a suitable back.

Ta-dah, a quilt

Black And Bright Top Complete from Wedding Dress Blue

It started as a color experiment.  My black and white scraps were overflowing, as were the solids.

DSC01962

Not a bad combination.

It seems a little too much like other designs I have done recently, but I ran out of scraps before it could go further.

The binding will be scrappy solids to mirror those pieces in the quilt.  I hope to quilt it in the next few weeks and we’ll see how it looks as a finished piece.

68″ square.  Not very big, but as big as I could go with what I had. And that is OK.  Nice ...

Black And Bright Blocks from Wedding Dress Blue

The Black and Bright blocks are complete.

DSC01922

It was breezy out and I couldn’t get better pictures, but there are 9 in all.  Trying to decide what to do next.  Sashing and setting…borders?  I’ll share more when there is more to share.

Just a note, I did about 15% bright in the black/white blocks.  I tried 10% first, but it wasn’t quite enough.  This feels about right…

Split Easy Patch Quilt by Ali from Quilted Joy

I love Ali’s black and white split easy patch quilt. She dropped off this quilt at the shop for us to longarm quilt it and the moment I saw it, I knew I wanted to have one just like it for myself. According to her, you don’t want to make one. All those little pieces were very intimidating, but I think she did an incredible job of it. It is balanced and very well made. It laid really flat and I didn’t have any problems with quilting it.

Mesmerizing Two Color Quilts from Quilted Joy

Every year the Kentucky State Fair chooses to highlight a particular category of quilt. The style they choose is then its own category for the fair. In 2019 the category was two color quilts. There is something mesmerizing about many of these two color quilts. They are beautiful in their simplicity and intriguing in their complexity. Whatever they are, they are definitely a style worth trying sometime!

Two Color Quilts at the Fair

Carol shows off her brown and cream quilt after renting a longarm machine at Quilted Joy

For those that attended the fair this year, you might recognize this one. Carol made this specifically to enter into the fair. The pattern is “Diamonds in ...

Holly’s Black and White Mid Century Modern Quilt from Quilted Joy

When we think of Mid Century Modern a lot of things can come to mind. Architecture, of course, had a very lasting impression on our current landscape. Mid century furniture, built between the 30’s to the 60’s, also is something that we readily recognize. How about the use of color and shape? High contrast use of black and white was big, as well as the tweaking of traditional shapes and designs with more organic curves and lines. It was a time of minimalism and simplicity of function over form. We can’t always define it, but we can ...
