Pet Portrait Class, Part 1 from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

I almost said no to this, but my great friend and enabler Cindy signed up and I decided I must join her.

I have lots of thoughts about collage portrait quilting after taking several classes over the past 6-7 18 months, and I’ll share those in this and future posts.

Phyllis Cullen and Cindy Richard are the authors of “It’s All About the Face: Quilted Portraits”.  Cindy and I participated in online 5-class series devoted to human subjects, then signed up for a 2-part series on pet portraiture.

The pet portrait class reminded me a lot of the ...

A week of bliss from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

This time there was no sewing.

We headed to the east coast--Myrtle Beach has been a favorite destination for us for several years. The soothing sound of the waves held healing properties for me when my one of autoimmune issues was diagnosed almost 3 years ago. It helped me understand that stress is the enemy and it is good to stop and do nothing.

A week before we left I thought I would visit the local quilt shops, but since we flew and could not get a rental car, and Uber and Lyft rides cost double what they did when ...

Baby quilt 1 is officially a flimsy! from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

That didn't take long! And another reason why I call it a palate cleanser.

I promise I'm working on the lighting...it's much brighter than what you see here.

Monday was my day off from work and I had a lot of to-do things, but I managed to get the other two borders on the baby quilt. I'm looking through my stash for appropriate backing, but I'm going to wait a couple of days; we're hoping to know the baby's gender by Wednesday.

While it was on the design wall, I got an ...

Monday morning design wall from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

Just to mark progress...

I didn't get to work much on the baby quilt this past weekend. Other stuff to do; mostly taxes. Thank goodness, that's done. I told the Hubs when I finished it up Saturday evening that it's a lot more exhausting (and expensive) than it used to be. One of the perks of aging, I suppose.

By Sunday we had a hiccup in what we had planned because Saturday night the plumbing under our kitchen sink fell apart. I still have a sink and dishwasher full of dishes waiting to be done because we ...

The newest member of the flock from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

 Meet Mahalo.

On my birthday I had to work for about an hour. The birds live in our living room/office. Meli, Malaki and MokoTu had been on top of the cage facing the window and conversing. A few moments later, Meli ran to the front of the cage and started looking around and chirping...and I knew he was searching for Moko. It broke my heart.

The next morning we brought home Mahalo from a non-big box pet store. That was a great experience.

He is still a bit skittish but he is getting along well with the others ...

The one where Spring Break did not go according to the plan from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

 The Chaos Factor strikes again.

We had plans. While I knew I had to work for part of our vacation, we tried to make the best of it. We planned to go to northwest Arkansas to visit David and Emma.

Wednesday morning, I signed on for a 2-hour training session at work. We were going to head to Fayetteville as soon as I finished, but tragedy struck. Our little Moko died.

Heartbroken doesn’t even begin to describe how we feel. He was the cutest little goofball and we loved interacting with him. We canceled our trip because we didn ...

New additions to the family from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

So, a funny thing happened on Christmas Eve...

I mentioned in my “some Christmas makes” post that the Hubs helped me out by shopping for walnut shells and some Velcro so I could continue working on the Sit & Sew arm caddy and pin cushions.

I had placed an order for pickup at JoAnn’s for the Velcro. While he was sitting in their parking lot waiting for the curbside delivery, he called me and said, “I need you to meet me in the parking lot at home. I’ve done something stupid.” He wouldn’t tell me what he had ...
