Week 24 of 2024 from Thread Head

This week I made another tiny pincushion from a circle of fabric, a button, some thread, crushed walnut shells, and an old Christmas light reflector.

Works in Progress-
Cross stitch
Temperature blanket

Photos from Around-

Molly on our morning walk.
Maggie resting after getting injured (probably fighting another cat that has been coming around).
The bees swarmed this week.
Luckily they stayed in the yard and were retrieved - now we have another hive (you can see the clump on one of the branches).
New wildflowers blooming in the yard.
I had company while I was working in the garden this ...

Busy Bees Table Topper from From My Carolina Home

During our February retreat, I began this project by making a couple of hundred half square triangles using Moda Cake Mix Recipe papers, set #3. I sewed a bunch of them into pinwheels, not really knowing where the design would go next.

Without a better plan, I thought about making a smaller version of Quadrille for taking to speaking events. So, I started making those blocks. However, once I got going, I realized that the small size of these HSTs have really obscured the bee and honey theme I wanted. If I do more with the other prints, I am ...

To Bee...or Not to Bee... from Lovin' Life At The End Of The Dirt Road

That really IS the question around here lately. DH has been toying with  the idea of diving into beekeeping. I laughed and told him I liked being his only queen bee.

Day 9 - Bees from Thread Head

This spring my son became a beekeeper!

They are fascinating to watch, and sure are busy.
Here they are bearding, something they do when it is hot.

Miss Maggie finds them interesting (we don't think she has been stung but the dog has - she was fine).

The bees have swarmed a few times (it was so noisy).

We started with two hives, now we have five.

This is the first frame of honey, and probably the only one we will have this year - the hives need quite a bit of honey in the hive to make it through the ...

Irises, Bees, and Pepper Mana! from Tink Squared

The first of my son’s irises are beginning to bloom. They take my breath away every year, so gorgeous!

I had the privilege of watching three bee swarms yesterday. It’s an act of nature that never fails to amaze me. I love standing in the midst of an active swarm… the sound and experience is incredible. We had rain blow in yesterday, but I was able to snag a picture of a small swarm before they flew off to find shelter.

About that pepper manna. I think this may possibly be the most fabulous smelling, mouth watering treat ...

Meine Pläne für 2021-Joy from Quilt Collection M.

I liked the scrappy topic of last year and therefore I will follow that scheme again. I want to make scrappy pillows and ...

Wednesday from Bayou Quilts

Garden and Bumbling--well, following the bumble bees.

This one flew before I snapped the pic, but
I like the shadow of the Lantana bloom.

Battening down the hatches in Louisiana and Texas as Laura approaches.  Scary stuff.
