In case some of you are getting random responses from me -- I'm trying to catch up on all the comments from the blog! Bear with me -- I should catch up soon!
Somewhere recently, I heard someone say that one of the generations (I don't remember which one, and I'm so confused as to who is whom anyway!) Well, the idea was that you are old if you carry a WALLET! Now, I don't think anyone should generalize about age because of something we carry! For the record, it has been years since I last used a ...
read moreThe weather is perfect these days, although I wish it would rain every night. Things are so dry, but it's beautiful to have the windows open all day and night. The humidity levels are extremely low or non-existent.
I started the Virtual Retreat two hours later, although technically, anyone could have joined, and I was off for a bike ride. I wasn't sure what route I was going to take, and I usually make a big circuit, so at any point, I could have turned right and made the trip as short or as long as I wanted ...
read moreI've been whining about my cutting table and how I can't seem to get it completely clear. Well, I've been whittling away at it, and this is what it looks like. Well, I should say, this is what it looked like last night. It looks even better this morning.
The cutting table |
The nice thing is that's it now only ONE layer that covers it! I hope you notice how much of the cutting mats we can see! Not a bunch of stuff stacked up. I'm going to keep whittling away and try to get ...
read moreFIRST -- I stand corrected!!! Yesterday I made a mistake. The interviewees did NOT get paid. That was very clear, but for some reason, I misinterpreted the information. I apologize for that. Thanks to a couple of readers who pointed that out. I've corrected my post from yesterday. What is disturbing is that while these people didn't get paid, the network paid $7 - 9 million for the rights to produce that interview, so someone profited. If you want to live a private life, then you should keep it private. You can't have your cake and eat it too ...
read moreThe last few days have been a bit of a mixed bag. Sadly on Friday we had a family funeral to attend as Robin’s cousin Steve had passed away. The day was wet and wild, and we drove up to Palmerston North to attend the church. Reflecting in the car that as the aunts and uncles have now all passed on, sadly the cousins are the older generation. Quite a sobering thought. With our part of the country being in “Level 2”, gatherings are capped at 100 people. Therefore, the family wanted to know who was likely to attend ...
read moreIt was a glorious day yesterday! I accomplished a lot, saw a lot, and well - just a great day!!
Often, when I go for a walk, I take my phone. Not because of the social media, which I'm hardly on these days, and I don't miss it a single bit, not because someone might text me or call me - I rarely get messages, unless it's from M who wants to know what's happening with Little Bear. Nope - I take my phone because it has a fantastic camera on it.
I stopped to take a picture of ...
Wow -- this month (like all the others) is marching on and waiting for no one. If we don't take advantage of today, well - it won't be there tomorrow! I try to take advantage of every minute, but don't worry - I do get some downtime in there. I actually picked up a REAL book yesterday. I had let three audiobooks expire without reading them. I just couldn't bear the thought of reading. And I certainly had not picked up a physical book to read in weeks.
Why? I bet it's because of all the time I ...
Even though it was a warm day yesterday - at least by the thermometer, it wasn't warm at all. It was windy and rainy and a perfect day to stay inside. Oh don't worry - I still managed my 7 + miles for the day by having two outdoor walks with the girls and walking around the house getting stuff done. I'm on track with my challenges and I'm not finding it hard to get that mileage in every day.
Now if I were a snail? That might be 7 inches in a day! Although I didn't see ...
As you can see in my SHOP HOP Baby quilt sample, the SHOPS all feature frosty, snow covered roof tops. The same snowy fabric is used throughout the quilt on the roof tops, windowsills and doorsteps.
Another great day - lots of things got done. And it was Saturday and that means getting organized for the coming week. While I have a list of quilts that need to be quilted, once a week, I schedule the day on which those quilts will be quilted. I'm in really good shape in that department. I need to remake my "to do" list for things that need to be accomplished this week and the Task Master (list of quilting/sewing things) to accomplish this week has to be updated as well. If I didn't have those lists, I ...
Strawberries and Cream ~ 60" X 68" I finally finished piecing and quilting this scrappy quilt from years ago, it was inspired by an antique quilt that I saw at a Quilt Guild "show and tell" and fell in love with. I drafted the pattern and set to work. This may just be one of my favorite all-time quilts. I backed it with this precious strawberry print. Naming this one was a natural. I don't

read more- Tape the backing, right side down, taunt but not stretched.
- Place the batting on top, smoothing as needed.
- Place the top on batting squaring it with the backing and smooth.
- Pin the three layers together but do not pin over a seam (that is part of the anchoring stitch line).
- Untape and verify that everything is flat and no ripples or puckers were introduced during the pinning process. Repin or add additional pins as needed, about every 5 ...
She always used cotton sheets for her backings for a few reasons:
- They were relatively inexpensive
- She could get them the size for the quilt she was making
- She had no extra seams to quilt ...
The maker used a beautiful collection of Asian prints for the blocks.
And I absolutely love the corner triangle she added. That provides such an interesting touch.
Oddly enough, those print blocks are all cut on the bias. I was really impressed that they were not stretched out of square when the 3-d flange was added to them, and then additional sashing too. She's a really, really good piecer. ⭐
The setting triangles were a design challenge for me. When you actually LOOK at ...
