MRI’s & Inspiration for Stitching from Where Art & Life Meet

Yesterday I had to have an MRI because I’ve been getting headaches that often wake me in the middle of the night. I was quite sure I was fine, but it’s a precaution and being an adult and all, it seemed the responsible thing to do. So off I went feeling I’d prepared myself adequately. […]

Animal Videos, Stitching & Dorset Buttons from Where Art & Life Meet

Animal Videos, Stitching, Dorset Buttons and a Couple Other Things Thrown in for Good Measure was the original title of this post, but that was way too long, so I had to shorten it. A friend of mine (and of my mother’s) sent me this video, which of course I had to share. Thank you… Continue reading Animal Videos, Stitching & Dorset Buttons

Videos From My Mother and Other News! from Where Art & Life Meet

First things first. My mother sent me two videos this week and both are too wonderful to not pass along. The text within this video roughly translates to: “What an animal concert: The Cologne pianist Thelonious Herrmann came up with this unusual idea. He took his piano to the Koln Zoo to play among goats,… Continue reading Videos From My Mother and Other News!

New: Improvisational Stitching Workshop! from Where Art & Life Meet

I am doing a new 5-day workshop! Improvisational Stitching! But what does that mean, exactly? Well funny you should ask, because I’ve given it a great deal of thought. Improvisational Stitching is what I call what I do when I begin with a piece of fabric, usually a piece of hand dyed linen, with no… Continue reading New: Improvisational Stitching Workshop!

Hand Model? No. from Where Art & Life Meet

When I was in my twenties I had a brief moment when I was an “actor”. Being an actor is kind of a prerequisite to living in New York City as a young person. Of course that meant that I was also in the restaurant business. How else can one support an acting career if… Continue reading Hand Model? No.

Exercise in the Time of Covid from Where Art & Life Meet

Before COVID hit I would begin the day by going to the gym, riding a stationary bike for 30 – 45 minutes, perhaps taking a 45 minute high intensity workout class before heading home. So when the gym closed I figured I’d landed on a “free space” meaning I’d start my exercise routine again once… Continue reading Exercise in the Time of Covid

Merlin Plays Fetch & Other Breaking News from Where Art & Life Meet

Seriously, is this one of the most hilarious things ever? Merlin is SO clever! So Merlin, in addition to all of his other amusing and endearing characteristics, also plays fetch. He may be small, but he’s fierce! In the morning, but occasionally in the evening as well, he will bring me his “cork,” which is… Continue reading Merlin Plays Fetch & Other Breaking News

To Do Lists & FB Live Mishaps from Where Art & Life Meet

Some people use calendars, others just keep everything they need to do in their heads, I keep lists. You know the old fashion, hand written list made on a scrap of paper or if I’m being really organized, on a note pad, preferably letter or even legal sized, as my lists tend to be pretty… Continue reading To Do Lists & FB Live Mishaps

Curiosity, Youtube & Asking Quora from Where Art & Life Meet

One of my favorite memories of spending time with one of my brothers, I have three, as a young girl was sitting in the field in front of our house discussing space. This brother went on to become a bio-chemist and is now a professor. He had just introduced me to the concept of infinity… Continue reading Curiosity, Youtube & Asking Quora

The Joy of Obsession from Where Art & Life Meet

Often referred to as a negative, I’ve always thought of obsessions as a lifeline to exploration, creativity, joy and boundless energy. Being obsessed with something (rather than someone) results in any number of truly awe-inspiring things, such as these artists who carve thread spools into amazing miniature works of art. Or Andrea Love whose website… Continue reading The Joy of Obsession

A Little Snow in NYC from Where Art & Life Meet

Any little bit of snow is exciting news here in New York City where we used to get several big blizzards a year, but now, not so much. So in anticipation I went out for an early morning stroll and had such a lovely walk. I made a video of my morning outing and just… Continue reading A Little Snow in NYC

What I Did Over the Weekend… from Where Art & Life Meet

I spent at least 16 hours this weekend analyzing and stitching examples of the Trellis Stitch. Specifically the spiral trellis stitch, which was one of dozens of stitches that adorned the Plimoth Jacket, a women’s waistcoat, made in the early 1600’s. Another heavily embroidered jacket is in the costume collection at the Metropolitan Museum here… Continue reading What I Did Over the Weekend…
