Last Saturday I drove up and met my in-laws outside of a little mountain town to get apples. DH wanted to come, but he's been working with his 2 colts and he needs to stay hooked up with them every day so I made a solo excursion. On the way back home, this little town was packed. This must be the place to eatIt's such a pretty drive - just over 2.5 hours and so green. I wanted to stop so many

Finally, it is September and this Labor Day weekend is the North Carolina Apple Festival in Hendersonville. I am enjoying the weekend, and celebrating the beginning of the fall season. According to the weather guy, meteorological fall begins September 1, even if the true season based on the Autumnal equinox begins September 22. I have posted about this festival almost every year I’ve been blogging, and it is still a most anticipated event. I’ve linked some of my previous posts to show you more. Apple treats are available at vendors all down Main street, from French Apple Beignets ...

This is contemporary. See what happens when the colors run? LOL.

... well, actually autumn is the word; the chrysanthemums have been planted and there's most definitely been a change in the weather; cooler, breezy days have replaced the heat and humidity for a refreshing new perspective. I baked an apple pie this past week from the fruit that I picked while visiting New England the week before. It turned out great, no so with the InstantPot recipe for baked

read moreOn Wednesday, I made a quick road trip with DH to haul some cattle to the sale barn (not the one where I work). It's 2 hours there. Two hours back. And we're back home by noon. Heck around here that means you can get in another 8 hours of working. Grin. Actually, the days are getting shorter and it's pretty darn dark by 7:30 these days. And that's just fine and dandy with me because most days,

read moreThis is a transitional time in the year for me, still too hot to be considered autumn, but September doesn’t feel like summer either. This weekend should be the annual Apple Festival, but the downtown street festival is canceled this year. Instead, the apple orchards are doing individual sales of their apples this weekend, allowing visitors to wander in the orchards to pick their own apples, and some with extra things like a corn maze or live music. There are 14 orchards on the official tour, and several more that are not. We still are not comfortable in crowds ...

Lots of space to quilt! I think I would basically cross hatch, but add a few flying birds swooping and gliding over the surface.
No birds on the second design, but the little fountains and the apple trees are sure to attract them sometime.
Again, lots of space to quilt, and once again I would keep it simple, with straight lines echoing those narrow borders, and yes, those birds would be flying around.
The last couple of days I have noticed a lot of birds flying around in addition to the few small birds which fly around the garden catching ...
