More Thimbles from Thread Head

I finished the thimbles leader/ender project-

This was the last of the thimbles I cut years ago, and I made about 4 or 5 projects with. This one is 14"x26".

I put a couple of borders on this one for a change (all the others I just added binding).

Since I needed a new leader/ender project (and didn't want to go out and buy a new die) I cut more thimbles with different fabrics (for a change). The plan for these is to make a 'larger' (than table runner) quilt - I am sure that this will ...

May Plans and Some Other Things from Thread Head

My May One Monthly Goal is to finish a couple of mini quilts.

The first is from Temecula Quilt Co on Instagram - the Stay at Home Sampler.

And this one is the end of my tub of little thimbles that have been leaders and enders for years (I have made about 4 different mini quilts so far - now I am debating about cutting more or getting a bit bigger template for a change).

Last of the Tea Towels! from Thread Head

I finished weaving the last set of tea towels from kits I bought from Jane Stafford Textiles in January (I had originally thought these would be a year long project, but I was so glad I had bought them all when life changed).

These are the Huck Lace Cotton Tea Towels in the Falling Leaves colour way.

Fresh off the loom - the kit made 8 towels, each over 30" long before washing.

I added about 18" extra warp, and still had plenty of cotton leftover when finished.

Keeping Busy from Thread Head

I probably should be cleaning my house, but instead I am spending time making things.

These are the Stay at Home Sampler blocks from Temecula Quilt Co on Instagram, 14 - 3" blocks so far.

I made a stitchery block from Marg Low Designs - it is one of the blocks from the Love and Hugs from Australia quilt along on Facebook. I always wanted to try out a little stitched block, and this was lot of fun. I enlarged the pattern to make an 8" block and turned it into a little wallhanging. It is 10"x12".

More Tea Towels from Thread Head

I finished another set of tea towels.

This is from another kit from Jane Stafford Textiles - Sassy Brassy Tea Towels, made from organic cottolin (a 60/40 cotton/linen blend). These were for me to learn about log cabin weaving, and it turned out to be much easier than I thought it would be.

The kit made seven towels with plenty of extra yarn. Each towel is different (more details can be found on my Ravelry page).

Woven Tea Towels from Thread Head

I finished weaving, and hemming the 9 towels from the JST kit - Country Renaissance Boucle towels

They were really enjoyable to weave, and because they are woven at 12 picks (threads) per inch, they were very quick to weave.

All the towels are unique. The kit was very generous - I had lots of boucle cotton leftover.

Here are the towels fresh off the loom - about 9 yards. The towels were woven to 30", plus 2" hems with cotolin in a gold colour (it didn't come in the kit, luckily I had a coordinating colour smooth thread).

Inkle Woven Belt from Thread Head

I finished the inkle weaving project I started last March.

I ended up with about 2.5 yards of 1" wide braid. I am calling it a belt for now - maybe one day it will become something else. It was my sample project for the loom. I had put it away when renovations started last year, and it was unearthed when basement renovations started this year. Turns out it was really enjoyable to weave with the little loom.

I bought the loom from a local museum that was having a clear out.

Woven Fabric from Thread Head

I finished weaving fabric for my Mom.

I ended up with over 6.5 yards of fabric, that is 18" wide. It should be plenty to make 6 chair cushions.

I didn't have too much loom waste.

Fresh off the loom it was about 7 yards and 19" wide.

Pincushions from Thread Head

I belong to Kathleen Tracy's (from A Sentimental Quilter) online group called Small Quilt Talk. For Valentine's Day there was a pincushion challenge. I made a little crazy quilt heart out of some leftover French General fabric, and an old key with a heart shaped opening.

I used a piece of wire so that the pincushion could hang up - let's be honest it is more of an ornament than a practical pincushion.

Handspun Pullover from Thread Head

I finished knitting a sweater - well really a tunic.

I starting knitting this at the beginning of last September (I was surprised by that when I was updating the Ravelry project page).

It came out longer than I expected (I guess it stretched during blocking), but I am really happy with the length. I had lots of yarn leftover. The sweater weighs 378g.

That's one of my OMG projects finished this month, and an OPAM finish.

Orphan Block Table Mat from Thread Head

I made a table mat from some orphaned blocks. This was one of my OMG projects for this month.

These blocks were from the Temecula Quilt Company blog - 1880 Sample Sew Along, from 2018. They are 4" finished blocks.

Here is what I did-

I added triangles, sashing and corner blocks to the 5 blocks:- sashing - cut 12 - 1+1/2"x4+1/2" rectangles; corner blocks - 4 - 1+1/2" squares; triangles 2 - 4+7/8" squares cut once on the diagonal (4 triangles).

All stitched together.

For the border I cut 3" strips.

Sewed them on opposite sides ...

A Couple of Finishes from Thread Head

The Pineapple quilt is all finished! Washed, to soften it, and on our bed.

The quilt started out like this in 2016-

It is cut with a template from Marti Michell. This is the one for 1" finished strips.

I cut out all the blocks, and just pieced them over time. This is probably my favourite way to make a quilt.

The blocks are 14". They were really nice to sew, and went together so well.

There are 49 blocks, set on a 7x7 layout.

Finished Flowering Snowball Quilt from Thread Head

I finished the Flowering Snowball quilt.

It is 72"x84", 12" blocks set 6x7. This is a quilt that I cut out with a GO! die, about 5 years ago.

I think I kept putting off finishing it because I didn't know how to quilt it. It turned out much better than I hoped. I was thinking of selling the die, but now I see more potential.

I quilted open heart feathers in the cream sections and citrus peel, and an echo in the print sections.

The batting is Hobbs Tuscany Cotton/Wool blend (80/20). It was lovely ...

Holey Watermelon Wallhanging from Thread Head

I finished up the bright wall hanging today.

It is 21" x 25". The pattern is from a tutorial from Mary & Patch (she has some great patterns and tutorials on her blog, and an amazing portfolio of quilts).

Here is what I did-

Thimbles Table Runner from Thread Head

The Thimbles table runner is all finished!

This is the first of my WOOFA challenge projects to be finished. It was my leader/ender project (a little piece of fabric to stitch when piecing other projects, so I don't have to cut the thread) for the past 6 years. There are 915 thimbles! But who's counting! There are 15 rows of 61 thimbles per row. It is 19"x56".

I use a little template to cut the thimbles. The finished pieces are just over an inch high and about the same on the bottom. I will keep making ...

Finished Table Runner from Thread Head

I finished weaving the table runner.

Here it is fresh off the loom (it did take longer to weave than to put the warp on the loom, but still very quick). It was lots of fun to weave - I really enjoy weaving and should try to do it more often. The treadling sequence for this pattern was easy to follow, and it was easy to figure out where I was in the pattern - always a bonus.
