DJ, We Have a Problem.... from The Colorful Fabricholic

And a Fix.

Somehow I miscounted when laying out the parts for DJ2. When I sewed them all together, I ended up with this. Look at the top and the sides. Should be straight, not dip in.

If I square up the edges according to the current placement, as indicated by the horizontal line on the wall at the top and the plumb line at the right, I'll lose most of the dark fabrics in the corners and the quilt will be much smaller than anticipated.

The solution is to add to the light sections and build it out ...

What I’m Working On: July 6, 2026 from Jo's Country Junction

I was able to sneak into the sewing room once this week. I initially thought I would get a couple days in the sewing room but that didn’t happen. We had the grandkids last week three different times. On top of that, we are still sorting through Rick’s things that we moved. We’re getting some …

Like a Rolling Stone from Ann Quilts

Family history tells us that this Rolling Stone quilt may have been made by the owner's great -grandmother.

I'd date most of the quilt top fabrics to the 19-teens to 1920s, with some c. 1900 and possibly some early 1930s fabrics included.

This quilt holds a couple of surprises.  The back and binding fabrics and strips added to the long sides, however, are c. 1940.  This suggests that the top was enlarged a bit and then quilted a while after the top was made.

Another fun tidbit is some older patching.  I always enjoy seeing a quilt that ...

Beating The Heat! from Quiltville's Quips & Snips!

Those of us on the Easty Coasty have been experiencing incredible heat indexes over the past week.

I even gave up on my morning driveway walks because by 10am it could be 80+ and I just wasn't feeling it.

This is so uncommon for us in the mountains....usually our HIGHS don't go above 85 mid afternoon, but this was definitely over the top.

And the thunderstorms my weather app kept promising?

Fizzled.

Barely made the pavement wet if there was anything, and it was dry 5 minutes later.

Weekly update: rain, shine + goals met + reading from With Strings Attached

Wildflowers at Pine Dunes (Saturday) and Ethel's Woods (Sunday).  Top: monarda (bee balm), purple coneflower, pickerel weed. Center: compass plant, Queen Anne's lace, false sunflower.  Bottom: butterfly weed, Culver's root, swamp milkweed.

Just as forecast, thunderstorms rolled in Friday afternoon, rolled out, and more rain overnight. Saturday dawned sunny and I had a great 2-mile walk at Pine Dunes in the morning.  Later in the day the rain returned and the temperatures dropped.  I didn't want to bundle up and sit on wet grass (even in a chair on wet grass) to watch the Zion festivities ...

creativity this week the watercolor quilt grows, choices made, a new block from Not Afraid of Color

For sewing this week, I played with scraps in a slightly different way... the start to a quilt above is from an online design I saw... goody goody gumdrops

I decided to mainly use my aqua/turquoise scraps  for this, with lavendar, lime, fuchia mixed in

After all the time I spent on my watercolor quilt, I thought, I should gather some other sized squares from the color bins, to organize some scraps by size and shape not colors

My watercolor scraps are cut to 2" square, so I moved up in size to 2.5"   3"  and 3.5 ...

Picture Perfect from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was kind of a mish-mash of a day. Things seemed out of order, and not everything was accomplished. It hardly matters. My calendar is flexible.

The only sewing I did yesterday was slow sewing. I finished the upper right corner section, and now I’ve moved my hoop down to capture the “LOVE” section.

The bird feeders were empty, and I wanted to check on the vegetable garden. My sun-dappled cat was already lounging outside when I made my way to the garden.

Since I wasn’t going to get another chance to hoe the ...

Bomb Pop: Machine Quilting on my Home Sewing Machine from Quilty Pleasures

I purchased the Bomb Pop pattern and fabric at Primitive Gatherings in June so I'd have something to stitch in the evenings when I wasn't working on retreat projects like Grand Old Flag and Forever USA.  I pieced Bomb Pop in an evening and a morning, then basted it while I had those big, beautiful, free-of-clutter tables in the Gathering retreat center.  I jumped right into machine quilting it when I got home.

If you've known me for any length of time, you won't be surprised that I chose ribbon candy for the quilting design in ...

Cake Stand Quilt Blocks from Podunk Pretties

I didn't get as much time at the sewing machine as I had hoped for this weekend.  Between catching up on summertime chores during the intense temperatures and humidity, and enjoying family time over the 4th of July, my energy for other projects was limited.  But I’m grateful to have made at least a little progress on these blocks.

The plan is to keep working on them little by little with the hopes of having this quilt finished by the end of the year.

If I could give one piece of advice to a new quilter it would ...

Sewing updates! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Let's get back to the T-shirt quilt. All the shirts are cut up and hanging on the wall.

The first part of the T-shirts

Make that two walls. This second wall also includes the backs of the T-shirts, and thankfully there were only seven of those. There are 44 T-shirt fronts and seven backs.

The second wall of T-shirts

I sent a note to Dillon to ask how to proceed, as they will not all fit on one quilt unless we make a giant quilt, and I'm happy to do that if that's what he wants.

Let ...

Weekend Update from Quarter-Inch Capers

It was a quiet weekend. Busy but quiet. I didn’t have a lot of human interaction, other than Sunday. I went to church, then went out to eat with my church friends. One of the sales ladies from Dillard had called me on Saturday to let me know they were having one of their semi-annual Lancôme sales. Spend $75 and get the free gifts. Okay, I do like the free gifts! I don’t use much makeup, but I use quite a bit of the skin care. The free ones are the perfect travel size! Anyway, I went to ...

Design Wall Monday - July 6 from My Sewing Room

We survived the July 4th weekend quite nicely.  On Saturday afternoon I helped out in our DAR booth during an event on the Corn Palace plaza put on by the local Masonic Temple.  The Masons did a reading of the Declaration of Independence, and also recognized local veteran's organizations and our DAR chapter.  It was a small crowd but well received.  For me it was a bonus because one of the Masons participating was a former student and I got to have a great conversation with him after the event was over.

Multiple neighbors set off fireworks that night ...

An Interrupted Stitching Week from Life In Pieces

Last week, especially last weekend, didn't go exactly to plan. It was a good thing I set yesterday's Stitching Stuff post to automatically upload before we went to dinner on Saturday.  We beat the storm home by less than an hour.  Radar clocked the straight line wind speed at 80+ mph just north of where we live. The force of those straight line winds across the windows on the north side of the house was pretty scary. We lost a few shingles from the roof, but it was already scheduled for a new roof this year, we'll ...

America 250 years from Happy Cottage Quilter

I mentioned before that I wanted to make a quilt celebrating 250 America. After I found fabric at Michaels and a local quilt shop, this is what I ended up making.

It hasn't been quilted yet. And I may still try to work in the bottom section (I ran out of one of the fabrics). But we proudly displayed it on July 4th.

Tiring day.............. from Exuberant Color

I trimmed this quilt a few days ago and yesterday chose the blue stripe at the left edge as my binding.  I'll get it cut today.

I didn't mention on yesterday's post that after getting 8.25" of rain in 3 days I had water seeping in along my south basement wall.  I mopped up some Saturday night and then checked it again yesterday morning.  There was more.  I started working on it, making a little progress.  My son and daughter-in-law stopped by to drop of my 5 gallon water bottle and I asked my son to ...

Design Wall Monday - July 6, 2026 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

 Happy 6th of July everyone!

The 4th was pretty quiet around my house, but we did have some excitement the day before.  Hubby got a hole in one on the golf course!  We have been celebrating his celebrity status ever since.  Pretty good for an 84 year old!

I finished the America 250 doll quilt in time for the fourth.  It measures 12” by 16”.

Here is a picture of it beside the copy I made of the original crib quilt.  My crib quilt measures 38” by 45”.  I blogged about making the crib quilt (Here)

If possible, I make ...
