South Island Holiday - Final Days from Romany Quilting

Just the final few days to go, the holiday was coming to an end.  After a wonderful two days in Dunedin, the weather changed and we traveled to Oamaru in wet and miserable conditions. We stopped out of town to collect two local guides, who hopped aboard our coach, suitably attired in Victorian clothes, ready to tell us all about their hometown.  Oamaru, known as "The white stone city" boasts a wonderful collection of historic commercial buildings built with local white Oamarua stone.  It was discovered that the limestone could be sawn after it was quarried, and hardens when exposed ...

Summer Blessings from The Knitting Quilter

I finished this month's free cross stitch from Primrose Cottage. I think it's close to 4" X 6". It's so nice that they offer these free cross stitch patterns on a monthly basis. This one was quick and took me about a week to stitch.

I've been searching through my stash and I think I'm going to use this fabric to finish the cross stitch piece into a pillow. I still have a few more bins to look through but I think this fabric would look nice.

I'm making 16 cat's cradle blocks ...

Sew & Tell - 5/25/26 from Melva Loves Scraps

Here we are nearing the end of the 5th month of year... the informal kick-off to the summer season.  Schools are wrapping up their year of education, and teachers and kids alike are looking forward to the time off.  Gardeners are busy with flowers and plants and some already harvesting some early produce.

I remember the times of having a (LARGE) home garden and the bounty that it produced.  Those times are long in the past since we moved to Colorado and the growing season is so short and overnight temps cool.  But I do have fond memories and am ...

Are You Still There? from From the Strawberry Patch...

In my last post, well over a month ago(!) regarding breathing new life into these quilts I asked you to stay tuned... and then I, seemingly, evaporated! Nothing terrible has happened, we've been away for a bit but life gets busy and this blog has been back-burnered for weeks. Not that I hadn't thought about posting, I had written many drafts; but only in my mind.Last week our DIL came over, we

Lucy Boston Blocks and Zoom from Sew'n Wild Oaks Quilting Blog

 Hello Everyone,

I made a commitment to myself to work on my Lucy Boston blocks.  I started making Lucy blocks in 2015 and I have about 20 finished.

This is the block I was working on last night while watching TV with Mr. Joe.  I made the decision to applique the blocks onto a 12-1/2" fabric square. I will put them together on point, possibly with a sashing.  The blocks are just too pretty to sit in a bin the rest of their life and the rest of mine.  I'm teaching this for a guild workshop later on ...

How to Spend a Rainy Day from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I'm writing fast this morning. Mike and I have appointments for a COVID booster, so we'll be heading out early this morning. Let's just get right to it, shall we?

Knowing rain was coming, I went out early to check on the flowers. The Garden Treasures peony looked pretty much the same as when I looked at it the day before. The Fairy Princess peony was starting to show more of itself.

The Edda clematis continues to add more flowers.

And that was pretty much all that was going on in the garden ...

Memorial Day Quilting! from Quiltville's Quips & Snips!

I don't know how everyone else spent their Memorial Day holiday, but I am lucky enough to have the Quilters of The Night who always have their retreat over Memorial Day weekend as it gives those who are still working a paid holiday day off that they don't have to use vacation days for!

We rarely do anything for Memorial Day around here as a family - we don't go on vacation ourselves, and even if we get together it won't interrupt retreat time so Memorial Day is one of the holidays we do have retreaters on ...

Memorial Day, 2026 from Quiltville's Quips & Snips!

It's still rather rainy -

It rained all weekend long except for a bit of yesterday where we quickly gathered the Quilters of the Night to do our over-the-porch-rail photos a day early.

More rain in the middle of the night last night.

There are NO COMPLAINTS!

It might be raining some folks' Memorial Day picnics out, but if we have to move it inside, it's just as good as long as we are together.

Parade of Finishes from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I hope those of you in the US had a nice holiday weekend.  I spent some time getting the "MHMH warehouse" organized. It is really just a 10' square room that holds most of our fabric and quilts.  Needless to say, it can become quite chaotic in there!

Mari sent in this lovely floral quilt top.  If I remember correctly, she also sent in a larger quilt using some of the same fabrics.  This one may have been made from the leftovers.  Mari also sent in this backing fabric and the binding.

Here is a fun scrappy quilt.  Elizabeth sent ...

Day One at Retreat at the Farm from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

In case anyone thought I was too harsh yesterday about my comments about the planet, I want to clarify that slightly. Yes, people visit these places to learn about them, and then they can be protected, but there are two types of people. OK -- so I'm generalizing there -- there are many types of people, but to keep this train of thought somewhat simple. There are two types of tourists -- those who just want to conquer the place/event so they can check that item off their to-do list. Get to the end as quick as possible, get to the ...

Into Nature Challenge from From My Carolina Home

I’ve been reading the magazines I got at the bookshop at the show, and many of them are Quilting Arts. I signed up for their emails, and recently they had a reader challenge. It was called Into Nature. Here is the challenge “Create a small art quilt (6” x 9”, vertical orientation) that reflects your personal connection to the natural world. Explore nature-related themes—leaves, stems, roots, flowers, spores, seeds, or growth cycles—as inspiration for this challenge. Your ideas might come from a specific place, a fleeting moment outdoors, a beloved garden, or abstract responses to nature’s ...

This and that from My Sewing Room

One small finish can be checked off so far this week . . . the Hollow Stars runner.  This was the kit I purchased recently.  Yay - a kit that didn't end up languishing in a drawer.

I'll need to clear all the Quilt of Valor stuff off my dining room table before I can actually make use of this new runner on the table.  LOL

It's possible this will be the ONLY finish this week as the sewing time is quite limited due to all the other things going on.  That's OK of course.

This week has a busy ...

More sewing...................... from Exuberant Color

I'm still sewing stratas for the William Morris fabric Trip Around the World quilt.  Normally I lay out the order of all of the strips and sew it as one huge strata instead of sections.  This time since I had 4 different 'runs' of light to dark I decided to sew each separately (there is one more group to sew) and then play around with the order before they get sewn together.  I can't press anything until I have the whole strata sewn together because of the pressing method I use.  I'll show my play time for ...

Summer Challenge from Quarter-Inch Capers

Every year on Memorial Day, one of our local quilt shops sponsors a Summer Challenge. It’s hosted by A Little Fabric Store in Yorktown, Texas.

This year she’s using one of the potato chip patterns from the class I taught last fall. The challenge runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and as long as you complete a quilt top with a minimum of 20 blocks and send her a picture of the completed top, you are entered into a drawing for a $250 gift card. It costs $10 to enter.

I paid my $10 online this morning ...

Two whole cloths from Stitching Matters

The user of these, as far as I know, is not a quilter.  She sent these two solid pieces of fabric to be quilted in an all-over pattern.  This will go up against a wall, and her products/patterns will be pinned to these.  I am not sure how the quilted fabrics will be attached to the walls, but she may have a stand of sorts.

I asked if both should have the same motifs, but she preferred a difference.  The motifs won’t be visible once she attaches her samples/examples, but they will still serve the purpose.

Cookies Delivered from Lovin' Life At The End Of The Dirt Road

DH and I were outside at 8 on Sunday morning when vehicles began pulling down our road.It was a small crew of 9 that had come in to chip the trees and brush they had cleared earlier in the week.We visited with them for a bit and of course thanked them for the work they have been doing. They all said it was a pleasure to work in such beautiful surroundings. And yes, they all got cookies.
