Lots of progress................ from Exuberant Color

A new needle finally made it into my longarm machine after days trying to avoid doing it.  I loaded this solids and prints Star quilt and got it quilted.  The thread broke 3 times but it is the So Fine which I hadn't had any luck with for a couple months, with it breaking 5 or 6 times while quilting a small quilt.  I may try adjusting the position of the needle and see if the next one goes even smoother.

I decided one loop in each square would be an easy way to quilt it.

I used a ...

Licorice Allsorts...again from Wendy's Quilts and More

Do you remember my Licorice Allsorts block of the month designed by Wendy Williams?

I barely remember it myself because it's been so long since I worked on it.

But last Saturday I made a quick trip to Auckland to support my mum for a few days.  As I was throwing a few things in a suitcase I suddenly remembered that she had asked for my help with some of the trickier blocks in this quilt.

When I first saw this block of the month advertised at Material Obsession in 2021 I knew that we would both enjoy making ...

La vie en rose with Veruschka Zarate from Just Sew Sue

I took one further class on Saturday morning at Pour l'Amour du Fil on foundation piecing as I loved the class piece. Verushka explained the method comprehensively. Her top tip was to use liquid starch and allow the fabric to drip dry.

The class came with a full kit using Bella solids. Verushka also gave out the remainder of her kit and it was interesting to see how firm the starched pieces are.

I managed to stitch four sections and then three of the sections into one piece.

Veruschka extolled the virtues of prepping all of the pieces and ...

Fabulous And Finished from Angie Quilts

We need your trumpets today folks. Both Di and Bev finished their Gaming Quilts.

This one is Bev's. She purchased the pattern from Etsy after one of those Rabbit Hole days I was talking about, she was so happy to find the pattern, it's an absolutely perfect gift for a Gamer. It's fabulous and finished and, I think, it has been gifted now, it has a very cool label! Toot toot toot Bev.

When Di saw Bev working on her new project on day 1, she immediately chose fabrics to make one for her very own self ...

Pour l'Amour du Fil from Just Sew Sue

Of course the boat was delayed on Friday. We made it to Nantes just on time as Helen Robinson hadn’t quite started the workshop that I had signed up for.

Helen distributed the kits which included Art Gallery fabrics and two rulers. An additional ruler was gifted during the class to trim the small units.

Everyone completed one block during the class and there was some background leftover. Helen caught me trimming my squares st an opportune moment as I had forgotten to cut the second curve. The block still turned out as expected.

I will turn the block ...

Camouflage fabric quilt from Stitching Matters

The last of the quilts sent to me from Nelspruit, some 800 kilometres from where I stay, was returned to the quilter on Monday.  The next quilt was only booked for Wednesday, giving me a day off on Tuesday.  Cleaned the house and then decided I could treat myself to some sushi for supper.  One day less to cook and I’ve been craving this for days now.

I also had time to binge-watch From Scratch on Netflix but even though it had raving reviews from other watchers, it was not my cup of tea. I am not into sad ...

Memories - Faces from Gene Black an Alabama Artist

One of my favorite places to go is in Mexico on the Yucatan peninsula.   A friend and I have found a place that we love being - when time and finances permit. We have taken many photos during our visits. Since he is the photographer, I am in more of them. He is "camera shy."

We visited the train museum which was a open but just to wander through - no guides.

At a local art museum I was taking a photo of these big dolls.  One of the workers insisted that I let her take a photo with me in it ...

Some yellow, some purple from The Academic Quilter

Hello all! How have you been? I don't know how it is where you are, but wow the pollen has been amazingly bad this year. Everyone I know has itchy, watery eyes. And the cars turn green. And the sneezing, and. . . yeah, you get it. It is zero fun on top of everything else.

I have made a little tiny bit of progress on my RSC projects. Hurray! It's been hard but rewarding to work on the stitchy stuff, even if it's a little bit at a time. I'm pretty sure I'll end up with ...

Famore Rotary Cutter Review on Off the Wall Friday from Creations - Quilts, Art, Whatever by Nina-Marie Sayre

Okay, so I don't like change.  I know most people say that but I really don't like change.  Of course, this

translates into my quilting life as well.  When I find a tool I like, I like it for life.  That would be why I am using the same rulers (Quickline designed by Nancy Crow) as I did 30 years ago.  My square rulers (Bias Square from the Patchwork Place) and rotary cutter by Kai.  When they wear out, I just check on ebay for replacements.

That all said, I still keep my eye out for what's ...

An Early Start from Quilting My Way

This morning, Patrick was up at 6 am. I followed around 6:25 am. lol We were ready and out the door by 7 am to get to Patrick's oncology appointment in Olympia. While he was there, I was getting my blood tests done. Then I walked around the facility. It was pouring rain today, so we were limited to where I could walk. I walked inside the building.

We were heading home and stopped to get my Chai tea and Patrick's coffee. Then it was to get gas.

Surprisingly, we were home by 10:30 am. We ...

Jocelyn's Tops from Kat & Cat Quilts

Happy Friday, quilters! This weekend I have several quilt tops that were sent in by Jocelyn and finished by a few different quilters. Pam did the quilting on this absolutely massive card trick quilt. This photo really doesn't do justice to the size of it!

Next Dee quilted this very pretty, soft, flowery pink quilt. It's a little bit hard to make out the quilting pattern, but maybe you can see it in the photo below. It's a large flower motif with leaves.

The rest of these were quilted by Linda, starting with the small masculine quilt ...

The original Sunflower Girl Quilt! from Angel Scraps Quilting

I have always loved sunflowers and had planned to make myself a sunflower quilt for a long time.  Finally got around to it after my regular couch quilt has become almost worn out.  I still love that quilt seen HERE.  I replaced the binding recently and its still folded on the back of the couch.  I think I have a picture with each of our grandchildren with that quilt.  Its special to me, to say the least.

......But the sunflower quilt!  Its so cozy and I love it.  Here are some pictures I took of it recently.  We took down ...

Durham Art Guild Artist in Residence Experience from Factotum of Arts

My time with the Durham Art Guild (DAG), as an artist in residence (AiR) has come to an end. It was bittersweet, excited about the new opportunities in front of me (more to come) but sad I won’t see everyone as often. I can highly recommend this 6-month (ish) artist in residence. I got so much out of it.

DAG Studio Space at Durham Bottling Company

I learned a lot about myself through this residence, which could be in part due to the fact I had a lot to learn about being a full-time artist for the first time ...
