Been Thinking Of The Past Again from Quilting My Way

This morning, while showering, I had a thought about toilet paper and toilets. Weird how we think of things while in the shower! This of all things! But I found myself thinking of the past - yet again. I do miss my father!

I remembered the story my dad told me about having to go out to an "outhouse" to use the bathroom. I knew of outhouses, but thought toilets was before his birth. Guess not. Anyway, I remember him telling me that they didn't have toilet paper like they do today. When I questioned, "then what did you use ...

Blogging break from Romany Quilting

I'm taking a blogging break as I'm off on a coach holiday for the next couple of weeks.  I write the blog on my lap top, but don't want to have to carry it around with me.  But I will be able to keep up with my blog reading on my small tablet. which will be packed away in my suit case.

And talking about packing - this was never an issue when we traveled by  by caravan, there was room for everything, and more.  I always used to pack a pile of books, my knitting bag and ...

September Project Round Up from Quilty Pleasures

September wasn't my most productive month.

I started the month on a long-awaited, restful, magnificent vacation on Hilton Head Island.  I wasn't up to much walking that week, so my sister kindly sent me beach photos from her walks each evening.

I finished my Samadhi scarf in September, just in time to show my team spirit.  Go Steelers!

After vacation, I finished quilting my Aloha Spirit Mystery Quilt.  (Watch me quilt this on YouTube)

I finished machine quilting Shining Brightly, August's Color Block Quilt (free pattern and video HERE)

Ready for Binding from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's a happy day. My quilting project is finished and ready for binding. When I left you yesterday, I was still mulling over how to finish the outer border. I ended up doing a sort of diamond motif all the way around. It's a little hard to see, but I have the elongated diamond in the middle, and then a shorter diamond at each point.

Here's what I did in the corners.

Here's another look at that border. Sorry for the weird angle. It's sometimes hard to take a picture that ...

Weekly update: AIC, quilt show, the end of an era, a finish! and a flimsy from With Strings Attached

I've had ample opportunities to go downtown to see the Caillebotte exhibit at the Art Institute, but it took a "closing soon!" email to get me to do it on Friday.

Wealthy Chicagoans in the Gilded Age (1890's) bought Impressionists as modern and avant-garde, and relatively inexpensive.  They were patrons of the Art Institute and thus the museum developed its Impressionist collection.

"Paris Street, Rainy Day" was acquired in 1964 and has become one of AIC's most famous paintings.  Caillebotte painted it in 1877.

I had hoped to go to this famous intersection (Carrefour du Moscou) when ...

My next project from South Jersey Quilter

I saved this picture a while ago.

I showed it to Manda when she was here. She has a two story house in WA state. She loved it!

I'm going to make 7.5 squares, backed with muslin. I cut some muslin squares. I plan to make each strip a different color family, so it will give the look of a rainbow. The longest strip will be 10 squares, and it will be blues. I'm going to stitch and flip the squares.

I got out the scrap bins. Yikes, I didn't realize I had so many! I ...

Fantastically Fun! from Quiltville's Quips & Snips!

This is the fabulous group I spent the weekend with!

Emily's stitchers came from not-too-far-off Huntersville, NC after having their retreat cancelled last year due to Hurricane Helene raging through our area leaving us without power for 9 days - right when they were supposed to be here.

I'm so happy their retreat time finally arrived!

Sticking to my goals from My Sewing Room

One day into the week and so far I've mostly stuck to the goals I set for myself for this week.  A productive morning was spent in my sewing room.  My happy place.

The binding is on my Challenge project for the guild quilt show.  I can check it off as a finish, but can't show it here until after the quilt show.

The Christmas stocking is one step closer to finished.  Binding and the hanging loop are attached, but it all requires some hand stitching before I can say it's finished.

The Log Cabin blocks are ...

Summit Stitches Part 1 continued from Humble Quilts

I wanted to give you a few more closeups of the original little quilt. I'm making sure to add a few homespuns!

And sweet directional fabric.

When I ran out of squares I wanted to use, I started using the 1 1/2" strips. I was hoping to get these sewn before heading to Houston but my flight leaves so early I had to get ready for bed super early!

The 4 patches are so cute! Originally I told you 80.... 80 is a great starting place but we will actually need 320 4 patches! I corrected that on ...
