More Ruler Work and Two More Finishes from The Quilt Yarn

Its been a productive couple of weeks...managed to finish all of the charity quilts ready to be delivered next week.

Had a lovely 'I Spy' quilt to finish. Given its colourful fabric I just meandered over it. Still find that the most effective and fast ways to finish some of the more scrappy type quilts.

Nearly got side tracked again in going through my stash to find similar fabric that could be used for an 'I Spy' quilt. Such a good isea and a fun project! Restrained myself though and kept going with the next charity project.

Now this ...

Onto Autumn Fruit on Off the Wall Friday from Creations - Quilts, Art, Whatever by Nina-Marie Sayre

Shirley, hooked by Kyoko Okamura, 40" by 37"

So, I'm onto my 2nd big project- Autumn Fruit designed by Pearl McGown & Jane McGown Flynn.  I'm still pretty shocked that I got this lovely pattern on linen with all the wool kitted out and class instructions all for $20 on eBay.  The more I looked at the project, the more I realized what an amazing deal it was.  Not to mention, it's a perfect 2nd project.  First it will teach me to follow a pattern and also shows me how to gradate the pattern to give it depth ...

July 2025 monthly recap.................. from Exuberant Color

I managed to get two quilts finished in July.  The one on the left was quilted by Robin Diaz so I just had to trim the quilt and add the binding on it.  The top was made in May so it was a fast turnaround.  It is 62.5" x 79".  The fabrics are Kaffe collective with most of the large prints designed by Philip Jacobs.  Most of the light fabrics are Kaffe and Brandon designs.

I quilted the flannel baby quilt on the right.  The squares were sewn together last year, so on this one I added the border ...

Two for One from Quarter-Inch Capers

Do you remember the phrase “quilt in a day”? It was a slogan Eleanor Burns used, the premise being, if you used her patterns and gadgets, you could complete a quilt (top) in a day. Well, I’ve got that beat—I finished two tops in one day!

The pattern is called Moondance, and it’s from Villa Rosa Designs.

It makes a quilt that is 40” x 50”, so not huge, but one of our guild charities is Gabriel Project. Wouldn’t this be a cute baby quilt? I am absolutely in love with the fabric.

It has little ...

Cool Down from Quilts....etc.

Yes a “cold front” finally came through-the temperature late after went from 94 to about 78 in less than 20 minutes – lightening and thunder and about a half inch of rain.  I had been working on Georgetown but needed to unplug the machine so I set it aside.  I am half way finished with […]

Chookshed Challenge August number and July recap... from Dreamworthy Quilts

How did your Chookshed Challenge number project go for July.  My progress was slow, but I was able to get all of my Fishy Business fish hand appliqued.  These fish have been traveling in my handwork bag all year.  Here they are on my design wall ready to be put together into a wall hanging. I really love them!

For those who are waiting for it, the August number is 7.

My number 7 is to do some paper piecing.  The two biggies I have to choose from are Vesta and Disney Princess blocks.

You are invited to the Inlinkz ...

Cross Stitch Update: August 1st, 2025 from Jo's Country Junction

My time flies when you’re having fun…or at doctor appointments all the time. Last week was another week of doctor appointments. I promise, I’ll give you an update once all the appointments come to some kind of conclusion. For now, we had an MRI and two radiation appointments last week. I took my stitching with …

August's Block 2025 from Quilt Doodle Doodles

August is here, it's hard to believe that summer is almost over. Seems like summers fly by too quickly. Soon the evenings will start to cool down and the leaves on my one maple tree will start to turn, it's always the first tree. I have a little touch of autumn in the middle of August. The garden seems slow this year... only one tomato so far, I'm hoping for more of course. (We've have had a lot of rain this year.) I have picked a couple of nice batches of green beans. I roasted them ...

Genealogy Day from Quilting My Way

This morning, Patrick went golfing and I got to work on cleaning up before I did anything else. I did stop and play my war game at 9, then back to cleaning.

Before and after Patrick came home, I was working on the WILTZIUS family. I received a message from another family member and wanted some documents. So, I pulled out my file and started reviewing it. I made sure I didn't miss anything or get anything wrong. Then I scanned them and sent them on. He didn't want but one direct line, so I didn't have ...

I Never Would Have Guessed! from Swooze's Quilts and Tall Tales

Almost two years since I posted.  I was trying to find some balance between sewing and reading or writing about sewing.  Then I got hooked on purging.  I really dug in and touched almost everything in every room.  Exhausting and exhilarating at the same time!  That’s how it turned into a big break.

We went on a big vacation to Alaska.  We flew into Anchorage via Seattle.  We rented a car and proceeded to drive 2000 miles.  We had a list of things we were interested in doing and then flew by the seat of our pants.  We’d ...

What I’m Making: Ginger Carrot Zucchini Soup from Jo's Country Junction

I am a big-time soup lover, but once summer rolls around…not so much. But…that changed when I was faced with ZUCCHINI…too much zucchini. I was on the hunt for more recipes, and this one jumped out at me as something different: Ginger Carrot Zucchini Soup. It sounded like a great soup to eat with a …

The Journey, not the Destination from Quilting Studio Adventures

Once my down purses for July were finished, I allowed myself a fun project: a new bag.

I saw this bag made up at Thimbles in Lockport. Even though I don’t play pickleball or have anything even resembling a racket, I bought this pattern because I just liked the lines of this bag!

So I decided on a grey grunge for the body and then chose the purples from my stash. But really this bag is all about  the 36” purse zipper that Holly brought back from QuiltCon2024.

This front zippered pocket is  pretty darn sweet. And look at ...

Seminole and Miccosukee Patchwork in the News, and How We Can Help from Gefilte Quilt

I have given several talks to guilds recently about my cityscape quilts. The talk mentions 'Seminole patchwork', which can be used to create the effect of decorative brickwork in modern city buildings. Here’s my slide on the subject. ("Quoin" is what decorative brickwork in building corners is called)

Since I started quilting in the 90s, one of my most-used books has been Cheryl Bradkin’s “Seminole Patchwork,” published in 1992 (Its cover is shown on the upper right of the image above.). Bradkin (who is not a tribe member) figured out how quilters can use the Seminole’s piecing ...

Letters and postage stamps from Chocolate Cake Quilt Designs

It’s July in the south and no better time to spend stitching and sewing in air conditioned comfort. This month, I’ve been working alternately on my cross stitch sampler

and a 1930s postage stamp quilt.

Progress on the sampler includes finishing the flowers in the center, the row of rice stitches on the left, and the large and small alphabets – very slow going on the large letters because of the amount of time it took to complete all the eyelet stitches.

I’m pleased with the way they look but glad that section is in the rearview mirror ...
