A Kitchen Day from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. As expected, I spent most of my day in the kitchen yesterday. It's kind of fun to create a meal to celebrate a holiday, and so I don't mind a kitchen day every now and then.

My morning started with the baking of this Irish Brown Bread. It's made with whole-wheat flour, buttermilk, and two kinds of oatmeal. The only sweetener is 2 tablespoons of honey (or golden syrup), and so it's a good loaf for anyone watching their calories and fat. Straight from the oven, it looked like this:

Card Shuffle Progress from Eagle's Wings Quilts

About a year ago I joined a bi-monthly fabric club that gave a selection of Kona solids. I can’t remember exactly how many were in each bundle, at least 12 perhaps even 15. Anyhow, I decided then that I wanted to do a Judy Martin pattern out of her book Stellar Quilts called Card Shuffle. It’s a variation of the Card Trick block using star points in the blocks. I started this quilt a year ago, after receiving the first fat quarter bundle. I picked up the last bundle a week or so ago. I’d had to ...

{I've Been Reading} A Place to Die For from Michelle's Romantic Tangle

A Place to Die For by A. M. Strong and Sonya Sargent

Jordan and Sam had the rug pulled out from under them just as they expected to sign the papers and buy their own home. Then, seemily out of nowhere, they're invited to buy a condo at an exclusive luxury building. The other residents are welcoming and their unit comes already filled with luxurious furniture that they'd never have the budget for. Never mind that dark stain under the carpet in the foyer, which must be paint. Those distressing sounds she hears echo through the hallways must ...

Midweek: star and cake stand flimsy + reading from With Strings Attached

I chose the purple batik for the sashing almost without thinking.  I used nearly all of it (just 4-1/2" x 18" left over).  I auditioned a couple of batiks for the setting, my limitation being what I have in yardage (rather than FQs and scraps). The peach won out.  I made the float extra-large. I'm going to keep it that way and skip an outer border.

5-3/4 yards used for the flimsy.    I still have 1-1/2" scrappy HSTs and a lot of 1-1/2" squares.

Another chilly day from South Jersey Quilter

I'm so ready for spring! This up and down is getting old. I know it's March, so not spring yet.

I hit 25% on the counted cross stitch last night!

Hot pad just needs to be bound. It's about 7.5 inches square. I learned some from doing this one, the next should be easier.

I've started cutting flannel into 8 inch squares to make some rag quilts. I've got 3 bins- Christmas, baby themed, and other. Any pieces 2 yards or more will be used to make recieving blankets. I've found a few ...

Blind Man's Fancy- Revisited from Humble Quilts

This gorgeous quilt was in a small booklet called Patterns In Time- Quilts of Western New York. It was issued in conjunction with the special exhibit at the Buffalo History Museum in 1990 and 1991

I finished my version in 2012. There was/is no pattern. The size on Electric Quilt were a bit convoluted, but it was worth it!

I took it out to enjoy this spring in my living room.

I have always kept my eyes open for the booklet and came across it on Amazon. It had been reprinted! I love it, except they really needed an ...

Two for Ann from Night Owl Quilting

Ann brought two lovely quilts.  The fabrics used in these quilts were originally selected for a different project, but the intended recipient preferred purple, yellow and green so Ann pivoted with that project.  These two quilts will be sent to Ann's daughter to be used on her living room couches.   One person's loss in another person's gain!

The first quilt features a paper pieced star pattern from Carol Doak’s book 50 Fabulous Paper Pieced Stars called the Maryland Star.

Ann selected the Breath of the Gods pantograph and we ran it vertically to match the layout ...

The before....embroidery on hand painted fabric from contemporary embroidery

You last saw this piece in a short video where I was embellishing seams with bullion knots.

Today there is a short video showing the contrast between the hand painted fabric when it hasn't been embroidered and how it transforms after hand embroidery is added.

I now have a huge pile of holiday laundry to tackle.

You will find me next to the ironing board.

Well, Dang! from Quiltville's Quips & Snips!

Have you ever spent weeks, months, years working on a project and then get to the point where you think you've made the wrong decision?

I pulled out my ever growing hexie top to see how the top border was going to look now that I've pieced enough of it and I'm not sure this is what I want?

Have I wasted hours and hours and hours?

Charity Quilting from Becca's Crazy Projects

No scrap left behind. These quilts were made using 1.5" strips.
They feature strips from many quilts and all those different fabrics come together to create a warm and fun scrappy quilt. This is a small version of Bonnie Hunter's Bitcoin. I don't make these very often because it takes a long time to collect those narrow strips and turn them into a quilt top, even one as small as this (the center measures 30" by 36").

If you want to contribute but don't have the time or skills, you can support the national Quilts for ...

I'm still waiting for the quilting thread! SIGH!
The 'problem order' made it through US Customs and has made it to France! Scheduled to arrive next week.
Meanwhile; progress on the Basket quilt

The 4 scrappy 16-patches corner blocks are done

The small 4-patches - measure 2.5" square - for the second border is done; 72 out of 72!

Mini-Dwellings is UFO #25 on my UFO/WIP list

The small house block has been sitting on my sewing table for weeks. The idea is to make a small wall hanging, but I wanted to add that little extra to make ...

Wednesday Wait Loss 476 from The Inquiring Quilter

WWL is a place where you can share photos of quilts you’re working on and get encouragement to finish them from our Wednesday Wait Loss group! As you can see, I’ve been doing this for years and so our group is strong, loves to share, and is very welcoming.

Here’s how it works. Every week I start out by sharing what I’ve been working on. Then I share the projects from the previous week that most inspired me so that they will inspire you too! This is followed by the actual link up where you can ...

Featured quilter from My Sewing Room

One of the local quilts shops (The Pin Cushion) is featuring the work of a different quilter each month this year.  I'm really honored to be the March featured quilter.  That meant going through my quilts to find a mix of large and small items to share. For the whole month the classroom is hung with my projects.

The big wall in the classroom has the large quilt with appliqued houses and pine trees, all done in blues and greens.  And the small projects on the left are a patriotic Lone Star wall hanging and a paper pieced round ...

Lost and found! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I love how we all have similar interests!!! And we have no end to the creativity and fun we have while doing those. I got a picture from Lynn, and she used the orange collage fabric in her butterfly quilt! It was probably used near the bottom in that orange bit? But maybe also on the border.

Another use of the collage fabric

Either way --- it's a fun fabric, but I won't be searching for more. I have my fat quarter of orange, and that's good enough for me.

As for doing puzzles on the computer -- that ...

Pressing, cutting, sewing.............. from Exuberant Color

I decided to take the larger pieces of Marcia Derse scraps out of the project boxes and cut 3" finished triangles out of them.  I pressed all of the strips and the other things piled on the ironing table.

Last night I sorted the triangles into piles of the same fabric.  I'll do lots more cutting before I decide a use for these.

I sewed these 3 stratas which will become half blocks for the 'other 16 patch' quilt.

After pressing the blocks I made on Monday night, I trimmed them to 8.5".

Yesterday afternoon I remembered there ...
