Less Logs for Christmas 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 from Virtual Quilter

Looks interesting and a bit weird!

A neat and tidy design, but one which looks as though I could have some fun playing with it!

I like the one above …

… and the one below.

The two designs above are both very interesting and would look great on a bed.

The last one for today would look stunning in a lot of different colour combinations.

I love the group photo … being able to see the five designs at a glance is always interesting, but these are a great combination in my never really humble opinion.

Turn Random Quilted Strips Into Containers from Gefilte Quilt

I love shopping at craft fairs. But vending my own stuff ? Sooner or later, most fiber artists learn that craft fairs are an exercise in masochism. Most shoppers won't pay quilters anything close to what our time and materials costs.

On the other hand, even after a half-dozen craft fair financial failures (but social wins), I still love the idea of doing a craft fair. Whenever I'm invited, I enjoy a few days of fantasizing about best-case scenarios - especially the camaraderie! I love talking to other artists! And civilians! And best of all, being forced to support the ...

Homage to Fragonard, or, Fun & Learning with your Favorite Museum Snapshots from Gefilte Quilt

Need a fast holiday gift? How about turning your favorite Museum art photos into mini-quilts?

 Before:

After:

Backstory:

Do you take a ton of photos at art museums? I sure do, because I see so many art lessons, about color, composition, creativity, and courage.

These photos are fun to revisit from time to time, but not much happens with them.

Until a couple of  weeks ago, when the Notre Dame Cathedral was reopened, five years after the horrific fire.

Days before that fire, we happened to visit Paris, including Notre Dame. (I blogged about that experience here.)

We also visited ...

Feathers Everywhere! from The Knitting Quilter

I've been quilting feathers on my Alaska quilt. I've been online searching Alaska quilts that have been custom quilted. I've taken the different ideas and made my own quilting path using a hodge podge of motifs from these finished quilts. I wanted to accentuate the circles that are made by the placement of the fabric so I liked the idea of outlining the circles and filling them with feathers! This picture is in the middle of the row.

This set of feathers is the first in the row. It's a little smaller since the border blocks ...

Last Minute Gifts & Tutorials from Melva Loves Scraps

I am a planner and like to get any big Christmas gifts done well in advance of the holidays and all the hubbub that goes along with them.  But I have noticed over the years that I am drawn to small projects that are quick and easy.  Many of them can be something to have on hand if a last-minute gift is needed or just a bonus "stocking stuffer."  And if they don't get finished???  No sweat!

At the top of the quick and easy project list are pillowcases.

As I mentioned a few stories ago, I made several ...

» Elsie Quilts

Lots of snow outside means lots of time inside to get a few things done. Here are three.

First is another charity for Basically Babies. "Monkeying around with a Giraffe" is just a simple panel. The dark binding set it off. I quilted it with a panto called "Amour" with big swirly hearts.

This "Blue-Green Blends" uses the same panto. It is a lap quilt size and still, I have more blue scraps. They must multiply in the night when I'm not looking!

The color in this photo is way off. It is very blue and green, a tiny ...

Quick and Easy Gifts from Shawkl

Here is a fast and easy project...seriously! If you just remembered that your needed a gift for a lady...give these a try. A set of four takes only 1-2 hours.

Some might call them "hot pads" but, I like to use them to hold a plate of food right out of the microwave. They are thinner than standard kitchen hot pads...so, if you wanted to use them that way...just double up.

Supplies: One 10" square of cotton batting, Five 10" squares of fabric.

Step One: Fold four of the fabric on the diagonal and press.

Step ...

Good Medicine from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Well, I'd say it's a near miracle...or a "nearicle," if you will. My elbow feels 100% this morning. When I wrote yesterday, I'd only just taken some naproxen, hoping it would ease the pain and stiffness. I could barely lift my coffee cup, and you know...life is barely worth living if there's no coffee.

After finishing my post here, I took a short nap, and then did my slow stitching. I gave myself a day off from most everything. By afternoon, my elbow was feeling pretty good. By evening, there ...

 Hello Everyone,

I finished writing the FREE pattern for Little Laurel. The fabrics I used are from my Laurel Ridge fabric line by Marcus Fabrics.

The pattern is now posted for you to download on the Marcus Fabrics website HERE.  I think this would also look great in reproduction or Christmas-themed fabrics.

The blocks finish at 9" x 9" and the entire quilt finishes at 55" x 55". This is the fabric line which is on sale now at Hancocks of Paducah HERE.

They will be making kits for this quilt that will be available on their website soon.

A "memorable" journey from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Let's say it was NOT memorable from a pleasure point of view. I knew it would be an uncomfortable trip and was not disappointed.

I'm happy to report that I got to the airport with plenty of time to spare. I was at the gate at least 60 minutes BEFORE the flight was to leave. Positively loads of time. However, the airport was busy (Monday morning), and more and more people have NEXUS passes, so that line was long, but not nearly as long as the other one. It took time to get through security, but again, I ...

To Do List for the Week of 12/17/2024 from Life In Pieces

Where did the last week go?  My last To Do List post was last Wednesday, so maybe that's why I'm feeling like the week just evaporated?  It has been a busy week and it certainly seems like I've not gotten much done.

Christmas Tablescape from From My Carolina Home

I’ve been collecting pieces for this Christmas dish set for a few years now. Each year I seem to find another piece, one more mug, a serving piece, or something. It is stoneware, and we use it almost every day through December. However, I have been making an effort to donate or sell a lot of stuff. My set of Noritake china, white on white floral with platinum rims (92 pieces!) is currently on Craigslist, although I doubt it will sell. But I want you to know, I resisted the urge to buy a pitcher listed on eBay that ...

A little of this and that from My Sewing Room

Saturday was a really good day!!  In the morning I attended Saturday Sampler, where we got the instructions for the final 4 corner blocks.  And the Show n Tell was even more amazing than ever.  There were so many projects in the Show n Tell pile that it took over an hour to show them.

At noon the Sew Vintage group met for a Christmas party held in the classroom at The Pin Cushion quilt shop.  This is just the best group of ladies with ages ranging from 30s to 80s.  One gal was unable to attend, and we really ...
